Yep, that's what I was asking. Taveras had a pretty strong showing in AAA over 100 or so games.Goldfan wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 18:37 pmGorman, Walker, Winn never performed like this at AAA……after tearing up AATraveledLessRoad wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 18:31 pmI know you aren't comparing J Walk and JJ as apples to apples, and we've had other really good MILB prospects (at least we thought) over the years...Walker, Gorman, Taveras, Carlson, etc. But, when was the last time we had a prospect that was supposed to be really good, that seems to actually be really good. I'm asking that questions seriously
Gorman held his own in AAA. Winn held his own in AAA as well.Goldfan wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 18:37 pmGorman, Walker, Winn never performed like this at AAA……after tearing up AATraveledLessRoad wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 18:31 pmI know you aren't comparing J Walk and JJ as apples to apples, and we've had other really good MILB prospects (at least we thought) over the years...Walker, Gorman, Taveras, Carlson, etc. But, when was the last time we had a prospect that was supposed to be really good, that seems to actually be really good. Thanks, GM! Good info that my lazy (bleep) probably should have looked upFuturegm2 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 18:46 pmGorman held his own in AAA. Gorman had an .862 OPS in AA in 2021 at 21 years old (younger than JJ)then had a .785 OPS in AAA. He then followed that by starting 2022 in AAA and had a .915 OPS in AAA with 16 HRs in 188 PAs.
Winn hit really well in A+ (.970 OPS) in 2022 and then held his own in AAA with a .781 OPS as a 20 year old that same year. Then in AAA he had an .834 OPS in 2023. And he was always known as a defense first player, so it’s different than the others. But he still performed well for his age and level across the minors.
Walker had an .898+ OPS at every level until he reached the MLB. He skipped AAA though so he was only in AAA after he had been sent down by the MLB team.
What's the point of bringing him up? He's only been at Memphis a few weeks. I'd much rather him have a slump while there and then respond positively then start his clock up here on a lost season.Goldfan wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 19:27 pm It’s funny we’ll gladly tolerate a Saggesse, a Bairero, a Hempstead?, a some guy I don’t even remember the name![]()
Well sit here and watch Gorman, Walker, Scott, hit .220-.230 for years
But calling up a guy with real talent who CAN HIT….
No….no….no…..maybe he’ll get a chance next season![]()

Taveras and Walker were both ranked 1-3 by various services -- Taveras for two years. Not true for Carlson (9 to 17) or Gorman (more like 30s). So none of those.TraveledLessRoad wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 18:31 pmI know you aren't comparing J Walk and JJ as apples to apples, and we've had other really good MILB prospects (at least we thought) over the years...Walker, Gorman, Taveras, Carlson, etc. But, when was the last time we had a prospect that was supposed to be really good, that seems to actually be really good. To be a top 10 prospect in the game is still something though, so I give Carlson that. He was a disappointment. Rasmus was another one, he was BA’s #3 prospects pre-2009.ClassicO wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 19:50 pmTaveras and Walker were both ranked 1-3 by various services -- Taveras for two years. Pujols, of course, although he was in the minors so briefly, wasn't ranked high. I saw him at Spring Training his first year
and he was a god.
Ankiel was a #1 and #2. He still is the best-looking pitcher I've seen as a Cardinal, regardless of how brief, since Carlton/Gibby.
Drew before that - a clear #1 rank and a very good career.
Maybe more.
