You need experienced guys in the AHL too to help lead the way. A group of just all young guys is a bad idea.
I agree. my statement was about ice time, not spots

I agree with Army's Mom. We need good AHL players and veterans to support the influx of young talent coming through.

As talented as some of them are, the AHL is still one of the top leagues in the world and a big step up from juniors. A winning/competing culture in the AHL will foster the expectations when they get to the Blues.
Agree. Also, the Blues could have 4-5 forwards hurt at the same time and he could help them get through a stretch like that. He'll have to clear waivers to get to the AHL and a team could claim him if they've got a lot of forward injuries at the start of the season.

The only way Alexandrov has a chance to make the team is if he was able to add strength and comes into camp a lot stronger on the puck. If not he will probably play on the top line in Springfield again. I still think it’s a long shot. Neighbours could play on the RW on the 3rd line if needed. I don’t remember if Texier or Joseph can play RW or not.

He will get a chance this year, that seems certain. Injuries happen... except for a few offensive whizzes who rarely throw meaningful checks.

He was second in goals and second in points on the team I believe, at 23-24 years old.

Did he even play 1 nhl game last year? His name is not on the stat sheet. I think it's a bit strange to have that kind of player not get a call up and then sign him another year for what? More of the same?

So sure, the team want's him back to help a winning culture thrive in Springfield but might be more than that to it. I think the Blues will some how give him another shot.

So what are you advocating for then? Alexandrov be on the team but only practice? Not play many if any games? He’ll probably be the best forward on the team.

It would likely take somebody getting waived for him to nab a spot in the NHL. We have a pretty safe set of 14 forwards right now.

These guys are probably Top 9 locks, with one spot open:

Thomas
Kyrou
Holloway
Buch
Neighbours
Schenn
Snuggerud
Suter

These guys will fill out the rest:

Bjugstad
Joseph
Texier
Toropchenko
Sunny
Walker

Injuries will for sure happen, but he'll be fighting with Dvorsky and Co. for those callups. He'll have to really show something in camp and force a move otherwise.

advocating for prospects to get ice time... actual prospects

I understand the need for older players on that team, I just hope the DVO's..etc..actual prospects, get quality ice time

Not impressed. He looked lazy and uninterested the times I watched his stint on the Blues.

I can’t think of any prospects that didn’t get enough ice time in Springfield last season outside of injuries.

Pretty fair assessment. If Dvorsky doesn’t make the team out of camp, there is an outside chance of Alexandrov making the team as 13th or 14th forward, if he shows better play at the NHL level than he has in the past. That 3rd line wing seems to be the safest bet for a competitive roster spot. I’m not convinced that they don’t waive or trade (give away) Texier, as he didn’t seem to win any Monty points last season. Joseph and Alexandrov could be two extra forwards in that scenario.

Not likely, but that seems to be the only path. Given how young he still is, I would love to see him come to camp and impress the coaches. Maybe something finally clicked last year, as his stats were way up. Maybe it was just him achieving his ceiling. Either way, can’t wait for camp to what shakes out with the lineup and guys like Alexandrov and Dvorsky.

I was never impressed when I saw him with the Blues, but maybe he's a late bloomer. But nothing wrong with having another option during the season as injuries will surely happen.

A sign and trade. Otherwise if you trade just his Rights, then there is no guarantee that he would not just jump right to KHL if unsatisfied with receiving partner.

I would not be surprised at that.

He's got numbers, and they matter.

Curious what ya'll think he could bring? A team or two might take the chance on him I would just want the Blues to know for sure about their assessment of him.

Its possible they decided he was not an NHL center and let him play a whole season in the AHL at wing and now we see if he can make it on wing.
