Pre-injury, in 30 games, he had 8 HR, 24 RBI, and an .818 OPS

Post-injury, in 46 games, he has 2 HR, 15 RBI, and a .555 OPS
Yea that’s called a hot streak. He wasn’t going to continue hit home runs and drive in runs and continue to OPS .800 lol he’s never been that kind of hitter and never will be that kind of hitter to think that he would have ended the year with 30+ home runs and 100 RBI is delusional. But I get why you are grasping at straws you were one of the ones who was doing the talking about him. His problem is he’s not a good hitter or good OBP already and he’s sacrificed what little he had for more power

Edman is a good, all around, player. He gets some of his value from defense and baserunning but he's good. He's put up almost 20 WAR so far. That puts him in the same class as Ian Happ and Nico Hoerner. By baseball standards, he's earned his money.

I don’t know what that whole rant was about.

He got hurt and his performance has massively suffered since then. I was simply pointing that out.

I never said he was going 30/100, no one was being delusional.

I don’t recall talking about him so I’d be curious to see what you’re referring to. Can you find any posts I made about it? It sounds like they made an impression… or maybe that was someone else.

I still think Edman would have done better if Mozo the Clown didn’t insist on moving him all around the field. He was a fine second baseman and hit reasonably well when left there.

There were times when they shifted him around so much I almost felt like asking if the Cardinals Bird Brain Trust was going to put him in the crease and make him play goalie.

Of course they don't regret the trade, but that's not really the point of this thread, which is they are paying him ~75m over 5 seasons(deferred money notwithstanding).

They absolutely will regret that, even if they can afford to wipe their (bleep) with money.

Is he junk at the plate? No.

Can he give you a spark? Yes.

Over the course of a season, is he a .710 ops guy with a weak obp? Yes.

It'll be interesting to see what those same twitter fingers are saying should he get hot down the stretch and help propel the Dodgers to more post season success.

Edman has been a good player whose value has been buoyed by his defense and his baserunning. His baserunning value (only 3 SB this season) has eroded this year. His hitting has been just OK (generally from about 10% below league average to league average).

Once he needed to get paid, he's a luxury that big market team can afford due to his positional versatility.

Ole Goldy has come back down to earth as well……another one of his Sept swoons and he’ll settle nicely into decline trend. Appears his power is all but gone….8HR in Yankee stadium….

The Cardinals had a valuable trade asset and got Fedde in return. It's irrelevant that he was a crucial piece of a WS team and conversely now struggling. It's just management being cheap.

ilcubuffs wrote: 19 Jul 2025 14:31 pm The Cardinals received Fedde and Pham for Edman in 3 team deal. Yep MO Ran sure screwed the Dodgers and W Sox.

Great probability of playing AGAIN in the WS, so T Edman is definitely a lousy player. Pham is a Pirate and Fedde is just plain horrible.
Cardinals received Fedde: -3 runs above average
Cardinals received Pham: -6 runs above average

Dodgers received Edman: +7 runs above average

So far we are down 16 runs on this trade.

Also, Edman hits LH pitchers, which seems to have become a big need for STL.

I liked the trade at the time it was made, but it seems that we lost this trade.

The Dodgers extended him for 4 more years. If they regret that now, that $65M is on them.

If they want out of that contract, we can trade them Arenado $45M/2.4yrs for Edman $57M/4.4yrs and Muncy $4M/0.4yrs. ::crazya::
Interesting if very improbable idea even if you made it in jest. Arenado for Edman.
You get out of the Arenado contract while getting Edman for 2 extra years at $6m/year if you follow the net shaky math.
A healthy Edman can play all over the infield and outfield.
Helps open the door for Wetherholt.
