This is all just my opinion. I believe Petro had a beef with Army. It was rumored he wasn't happy when the Blues sent him back to Junior hockey after his initial trial. It was a good move by the Blues. Petro was overmatched at that point. He returned a polished player that was clearly going to be a star defenseman. It was also rumored the Blues put Petro on the trade block in December of the Cup year when the team was last in the league. I'm sure that didn't sit well with Petro.
I also believe Army had a beef with Petro. It was rumored Blues management did not like their captain having no response to Benn sitting on him in that incident in Dallas. Now just pure specualtion on my part now. I think Army didn't like Petro showing up at the beginning of the Cup year completely unprepared to play hockey. This was just after the triplets were born. He was awful the first 25 games of the season, then got better and became the star defenseman Petro again. I also think Army didn't like Petro not be ready to play returning from the pandemic. Petro stated he hadn't done anything hockey related during that time.
Regardless of how Petro and Army felt about each other or why the split happened, Petro was one of the best defenseman in Blues history. He was captain of the Blues first Stanley Cup championship team. His goal at the end of the 1st period in Game 7 vs Boston was huge. Thanks for skating back to the bench Marchand, and best of luck to Petro in the future.

I’ll believe it if and when he DOESN’T have a miraculous recovery just in time for the playoffs.

Yet they never won the Cup until Ryan O'Reilly showed up to reset the team's work ethic.seattleblue wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 15:44 pm He was the franchise's best defenseman for a decade. He handled the most minutes every year, he was a true #1 defenseman. During this decade the Blues won more regular season games than any team in the Western Conference and it culminated in a Cup, again which he led in ice time. He asked for the kind of contract that was utterly reasonable for a player of his contribution level to ask for. He was the critical piece and the Blues spent a few years in the wilderness while he was proving he was worth the money. And the idea that he would have too much control in a situation where we assume his play is unacceptably putrid but he's being a jerk and refusing to be traded (COUGH THE EXACT PLAYER THEY BROUGHT IN AFTER PETRO LEFT COUGH) is not only far fetched, but one of those risks you take all day every day. It was so dumb, Doug Armstrong outright said it his career's biggest regret. So because of personal enmity with a hockey fan, all of this is warped into Petro's the villain. It's gross. I hope bleedr posts the picture of him lifting the Cup. Bleedr is right about Pietrangelo.
Petro's work ethic was underscored during the COVID shutdown. They had a chance to REPEAT and he never picked up a stick.
Sorry. That's not the stuff of statues. It would be akin to Ozzie not preparing to play and then mailing it in.

As for the Cup year, the second half, I rank him up there with 5-6 other players that were outstanding in the run up and the play offs themselves. This was a team that needed all of them and the role players as well, one of beauties of Saint Louis's achievement.
As a personal observation, IMO he knew he was gone that summer of his FA before he and DA had their last sit downs. And he checked out on this team before the last puck dropped too.
He will never rank up there with the true great Blues players for me but he was undeniably a talented player who made this franchise better and I have zero argument with the impressive stats he earned on the ice playing for STL.

The way Bleedr has manipulated the minds of so many on here is something I continue to find very interesting and educational.

Douchey thread started by a douchey poster aimed at calling out the forum's biggest [ablution].

I don't necessarily agree. People have strong opinions about this every time it comes up on Facebook or Twitter as well, and they know nothing about Bleedr. I think he tarnished what he accomplished here, by the way he left. It has a lot of parallels to Pujols. Pujols fixed a lot of that with his return, and the fact he won nothing while away.

There was DEFINITELY bad blood between the two. Most fans forget that Petro held out in 2013, he didn't sign until the second day of camp when the Blues gave him the same deal that Karlsson had. His next contract he wanted Josi+. That wasn't happening, and history proved that right.Sudsy 11 wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 19:11 pm This is all just my opinion. I believe Petro had a beef with Army. My feelings on Petro have zero to do with anything here and AP is a great example of similar feelings I have on a few former players as to how and why they left and reading between the lines of their own PR stories.

I will always appreciate his time here. I will forever be grateful for his knocking Joe Pavelski (I think it was Pavelski) into next week in the WCF in the SJ series. That was one of many fantastic physical plays that helped us get thru the Sharks. I will always remember game 7 and especially the final 10 seconds of the first period where he walked Marchand, who for some unknown reason decided he needed a change in the last ten, and then scored a beauty of a goal giving us some slight breathing room heading into the final 40 minutes.
I am also cynical enough to state on the record that I firmly believe that come mid-April 2026 the man will start his hockey career again. If I am wrong, I will own it. Vegas has a lengthy history of playing shenanigans with the LTIR rules, and this is the last year they can do so. I find the fact that he was clearly injured, and this was known back in May when they got eliminated, combined with the fact that all of this was announced the day before Marner signed way too coincidental. Time will tell.

This is your wake up call, douchey. The place was almost tolerable while you were gone.

That was Schwartz that passed it to himself off the boards while Marchand took a powder, then fed Petro coming in late for the goal. It looked like he went over Rask’s shoulder but he actually put it under his arm.George Zipp wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 07:57 am I will always appreciate his time here.
