Yeah I think it's completely immature to post this thread to stoke a personal fight when the subject is the first Blues player to ever lift the Cup, which for a lot of us was one of the best days of our entire lives, and who in Game 7 was on the ice for 18 of our 20 shots and was 1+1 and scored the Cup winning goal which was an emotional crusher to boot. I think this thread is a provocative [shirt] thread and you should feel bad

I guess I haven't been on the boards long enough to know what anyone would have against Pietrangelo. He was a cornerstone here during our Stanley Cup season.

He was the franchise's best defenseman for a decade. He handled the most minutes every year, he was a true #1 defenseman. During this decade the Blues won more regular season games than any team in the Western Conference and it culminated in a Cup, again which he led in ice time. He asked for the kind of contract that was utterly reasonable for a player of his contribution level to ask for. He was the critical piece and the Blues spent a few years in the wilderness while he was proving he was worth the money. And the idea that he would have too much control in a situation where we assume his play is unacceptably putrid but he's being a jerk and refusing to be traded (COUGH THE EXACT PLAYER THEY BROUGHT IN AFTER PETRO LEFT COUGH) is not only far fetched, but one of those risks you take all day every day. It was so dumb, Doug Armstrong outright said it his career's biggest regret. So because of personal enmity with a hockey fan, all of this is warped into Petro's the villain. It's gross. I hope bleedr posts the picture of him lifting the Cup. Bleedr is right about Pietrangelo.

Don’t act like Bleedr is innocent in all this. He poked the bear just as much as people poke him now. Personally I think Petro knew the Blues would never meet his demands, but that’s neither here nor there at this point.seattleblue wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 15:44 pm He was the franchise's best defenseman for a decade. That said, I do appreciate Petro’s contributions to the team while he was here and he was a cornerstone defenseman.

Petro hasn't been replaced here yet. With that in hindsight, it's hard to believe that people dislike him.
I long for the good old days of having a home-grown TOP5 pick in the lineup.

Armstrong said he regretted that things couldn’t be worked out with Petro.seattleblue wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 15:44 pm He was the franchise's best defenseman for a decade. He NEVER said he would do things differently. Petro should take the same amount of blame as Army for things not working out. He should actually take more of the blame. HE CHOSE TO LEAVE! He also refused to compromise on any of his demands.
Your revisionist history is funny though.
Petro was a great defenseman….but I’m glad he is gone. He also skipped 4 Nations and then magically healed when Vegas returned from the break. He gets entirely too much credit from clowns on this board….
Again, I believe he was great…but he chose to leave. If every thing happed exactly the same way….Army would let him walk again. Army moved on.
Petro moved on.
It’s funny that some trolls on here can’t.

OK, seems like most folks' opinions are consistent with what I would have expected. He was an excellent player who helped bring a championship to the city, and played through some very difficult personal circumstances. It's always hard to see guys leave and play elsewhere (Shanahan, Hull, Backes...etc) but I never felt like Pietrangelo gave us anything less than his best.
Re: Petro IS Basically calling it quits. I say buh bye
I'm grateful for his time here...he had 10 long years and was a stalwart defense man for this franchise. He was reliable, durable and a key guy running the Blues defense.
As for the Cup year, the second half, I rank him up there with 5-6 other players that were outstanding in the run up and the play offs themselves. This was a team that needed all of them and the role players as well, one of beauties of Saint Louis's achievement.
As a personal observation, IMO he knew he was gone that summer of his FA before he and DA had their last sit downs. And he checked out on this team before the last puck dropped too.
He will never rank up there with the true great Blues players for me but he was undeniably a talented player who made this franchise better and I have zero argument with the impressive stats he earned on the ice playing for STL.

[*]Thank God the Blues didn't pay that ridiculous bonus he got for signing in Vegas. Thanks for the memories and the slap in the face Petro....see ya!
I always liked Parayko more.

The strangest thing to me is the guy who keeps hoping for the Blues to be one of the worst 5 teams in the league because he wants the team to be really good?
I just don't understand.
Petro was a really good Blue. I like the current Blues team also.
