Mo was only interested in trading Arenado this off season period! It was reported by many other teams GM’s that Mo was not listening to offers on other players. There was some interest in Feddee but Mo wasn’t listening this offseason. Now he will likely get traded for next to nothing if not just released later this season. They were very surprised on how Mo had no interest in any conversations concerning other players. Once Gray, Contreras and Mikolas refused to waive their no trade clause it was Arenado only.
Just the other day he stated he wasn’t looking to trade ANY relievers this deadline. I don’t think they will be active at all the next 3 weeks and other teams GM’s will shake their heads in disbelief.
Hope I’m wrong but that has been the trend this year so far.

or vice versa.

Who do you see better out of the BP?

MM can have a good couple innings before trouble begins and
Fedde may have less of a relationship between him and the team.
There is a thought that maybe Fedde is tipping pitches. That or a mechanical issue could be worked on out of the bullpen. Plus it may allow him to clear his head while still getting work.

Fair points.

I imagine both will still be here. Fedde would bring nothing back and Mikolas is destined for a red jacket.

Fedde absolutely should be traded, problem is his trade value has plummeted in the last 4-5 weeks, the last 3 starts especially.
really Nobody makes trades in April/May so 4 months of track record was always going to be in Fedde's stat line before we could monetize his return.
Sure, but him being so bad in multiple starts in a row, up to and going into July, definitely changes if teams will even be willing to trade for him and what they're willing to give for him than if, instead, he'd just been the 3.72 ERA pitcher he was after the trade last season.

Trade value has plummeted, it can't have not.
You're right - he's regressed, which is unfortunate. because he should have had some value had he maintained. But then again maybe we would still want to keep him.

Meanwhile, if there was no market for him last offseason, it wouldn't have made sense to trade him for a B level prospect with an expected future WAR near 0, just to do something. So we really can't know what might have been. Just that we'd be a lot better off either way if he were pitching well right now.
Even if he was a merely a barely sub-4 ERA guy, his deal expires at the end of this year, he isn't in your long term plans, and he absolutely should not be given a QO, why would we want to keep him? He definitely should have been dealt this off-season - not knowing if the Cardinals received offers or what those offers were makes that a moot point, but it's still reality.

They aren't moving Fedde to the bullpen as they work to trade him.

Trade him? Nobody is trading for him now.

Agreed, there is very little market for him now, and if they do keep him, there is no way they make a QO, so not even a compensatory pick is on the table. The best, or at least one of the best, improvements the new regime can make is to pull the trigger when value is high on guys who aren't going to be kept long-term. I'm assuming Bloom has experience in identifying these scenarios and executing moves with the Rays.
