Making Room for McDavid

The Oilers had just under $12M in cap space to start the off-season. Frederic, reportedly, is signing for just under $4M. Bouchard is, "reportedly", looking for $10M or so. The Oilers had to do a move like this just to keep those two and fill out the last couple of roster spots, and Kane was the only salary big enough to do it (excluding Hyman, and RNH who, I'm sure they didn't want to trade).

Honestly i would just trade bouchard if he wants 10 million. He is a great offensive dman but he left a lot to be desired with constant mistakes in his own end. Id rather not obliteraze my top 6 deoth. This feels like another darnell nurse mistake.

He looked good.most the playoffs and the contract isnt that bad. He honestly looked better after sitting out all year than he did last year. He just had burned a lot of bridges before edmonton

Yeah I think he honestly looked fine for them until the Final. Florida just got into his head too much (like a lot of the Oilers).

How does this make Vancouver better? This feels like they really are going back to a rebuild. The Hockey Guy is going to be despondent over this one. lol

If you are Vancouver you obviously don't want to throw the towel in just 2 seasons after being the division winner and getting 109 pts, but fact of the matter is they have an incredibly desirable player who would net them some really good quality and get them back in contention in about 2 seasons.

The fact that it is very unlikely Hughes re-signs there and he still has another year left, I'd be floating his name like crazy.

I feel like the bouchard contract will be another massove mistake that will doom their team. They already did this with nurse. Now they will be payinf near 20 million for 2 defensemen who absolutely cant defend and ekholm aging fast. And trading away top 6 depth to do it.

Seems like a low risk move for the Nucks. While Kane is a total P[ositively] O[bnoxious] S[impleton], he has skill. And at a little over $5m for one season, I don’t see the risk of giving up a 4th round pick. He’ll add size and grit, along with probably 20 goals.

And if they want, guarantee that some team will trade for him as a deadline rental. Just don’t let him play against Chucky, who got in his head and made him do stupid things.

I think Vancouver regrets trading Miller. Their star Player makes Kyrou look tough by comparison.
They need some heart and guts.
Kane is not one of my favorite players, but I get it.

Bouchard for that much and that long is scary. He's got that Shattenkirk vibe about him. Great offensive player, but just not a reliable all-around defenseman.

A good point. Kane is just, well Kane. I don't see him being locker room glue or fixing a non-playoff team. Of course he was basically free.

There's a lot of Kyrou for Dobson rumors out there. Not sure that's the deal I'd make but that's probably the closest thing you could get for Kyrou 1 for 1 in a trade. I'd love to get McAvoy or somebody like him for Kyrou, but again, I'd rather trade futures than make a sideways trade involving our leading scorer.

Why are we going after Ekholm? He would give us a 4th LHD. Are you going to play him or Fowler on their off side? Is Ekholm a 3rd pairing?

I'd love to get an upgrade on Faulk that pushes him to the third pair, or replaces him, but outside of that I don't see the point in making another move for a LHD (unless you somehow get a chance to acquire a franchise LHD that you can't pass up, which I could count on one hand), especially an old one like Ekholm. We got our Ekholm last year in Fowler.

Exactly, this feels like their last gasp "all in" year with this core, even though I think their window closed last week. I guess they could win the league minimum veteran lottery and have just enough depth to win it all on the backs of McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman, RNH, and Bouchard, but it seems like a long shot.

Ekholm looked pretty bad in the playoffs and was mediocre durong the year. He was injured which explains some of it but hes also old. He may be washed up or unable to stay healthy at this point.

apparently they want demko too, but if that were the case, ud think it would be included in the kane deal. also, ud think that would signal a rebuild for the nucks. and hughes would be out then too. all speculation i guess.

So, maybe somehow we find a way to land Quin Hughes? His mother was born here and has connections to St. Louis.
