STL has missed 3 very obvious opportunities since.
Let's hope they don't miss the 4th.
Easy.
Obvious.
Correct.
Well, are there any of these options that you would analyze and advise?
I enjoy your analysis. Can I ask where do you find BTV? I’ve looked but only see paid services that provide.
Thanks. It's at baseballtradevalues.com. They have different price points for subscriptions.

I will go beyond that. Get back to me in 30 days. If Nootbaar is going to traded, I should be able to tell you around July 20th both to whom and for whom it will happen.

Not to hijack but there's a good analyst for pitcherlist who took a deep dive on Nootbaar and the conclusion ain't great. The TL;DR is that his recent woes come from being intentionally more aggressive, which he's not really equipped to do:
All of this is to say that I think the best version of Nootbaar is the uber-passive one, with a ceiling of a 125 wRC+. That's a good player, but I don't think the superstar potential is there.

We're currently seeing his attempt at aggression, and it simply isn't working

In sum they should trade him while they can, or be content with a mid. 700 OPS leadoff hitter.

Talkin' Baseball wrote: 22 Jun 2025 21:38 pm The Cardinals should be open to trading Lars Nootbaar. This doesn’t HAVE to be done, but it should be explored. It would be okay to extend him, if that can be done. The two years of control left means he is not a rental and really helps his trade value.
In a trade proposal I made about Ryan Helsley, I suggested that he be packaged with Noot, Matz, and Jimmy Crooks to Philadelphia for Aidan Miller (Phillies #2/MLB #22), Justin Crawford (Phillies #3/MLB #53), and Mick Abel (Phillies #8). If you want more details on them you can check the thread on Ryan Helsely. The Phillies are desperate for a LF and a closer. They also need a backup catcher now and a replacement for Realmuto next year.

If this doesn’t pan out, the Cardinals should contact the Mariners (they should probably contact them anyway). The Mariners are desperate for any type of offense. They could use a RF. They also have the best farm system in baseball. They should be winning their division, but right now don’t even hold a wildcard spot because they can’t hit. Noot could bring a haul from them.
From Seattle, I would ask for 2 of their MLB top 100 prospects. Here are my targets; Lazaro Montes is a 20-year-old corner OF playing at A+ right now. Montes is a 6’5” 210 lb beast. He is the Mariners #2 prospect and the #33 prospect in MLB. He is a left-handed hitter with big power. He is a poor runner and defender. He has drawn comps to Yordan Alvarez. In his first 2 pro seasons he had OPS of .1007 and .1000. Last year he hit .288, OPS .884, 23 HR, and 105 RBI’s (116 games). So far this season, he has a .269 AVG, .935 OPS, 14 HR, and 42 RBI. He is ready to be promoted. Ryan Sloan is in his first professional season in A ball. He is the Mariners #9 prospect and the #92 overall prospect in MLB. Sloan is a 19 year old 6’5” 220 lb right-handed pitcher from Illinois. He has a mid-90’s fastball that can touch 100 along with a plus change-up and slider.

Along with their deep farm system, they have a Round A competitive balance pick this year, as well as drafting at #3 overall. They can afford this. Baseball Trade Values has these two valued approximately the same as Nootbaar.
Comment on the above, rank the below, or make your own suggestions.

1) Nootbaar, Helsley, Matz, and Crooks to the Phillies for Aidan Miller, Justin Crawford, and Mick Abel.
2) Nootbaar to the Mariners for Lazaro Montes and Ryan Sloan.
3) Nootbaar to the Royals for Noah Cameron and Vinnie Pasquantino (who could be flipped)
4) Nootbaar to the Rangers for Alejandro Rosario and Emiliano Teodo.
5) Nootbaar to the Blue Jays for Ricky Tiedemann plus ________
The problem with trading nootbar is that our outfield is so freaking thin with very few prospects.

Walker looks like a bust. Burleson probably shouldnt be a long term outfielder. Scott isnt exactly hitting great.

And who to we have to replace nootbaar. You could move donovan to outfield since our infield is crowded but thats about it. Unless you want to experument with herrera or saggese moving to outfield

Im not totally opposed to moving nootbaar but we need to acquire another outfielder then cuz our depth is so poor.

I think its easier and more practical to trade an infielder.

He's not quite ready yet but Church has come out of pretty much nowhere to look like a serviceable fill-in.

There are several options, many mentioned already. I full-on would try Herrera in LF (next year). As mentioned, Donovan could go to left and help alleviate some of the infield jam. As mentioned above, Church is not that far from a trial run. The way he is raking, is it so hard to see Joshua Baez playing in the OF at some point next year? In the first two trade suggestions above there are significant outfielders involved (granted, one is in high A). There are other possible trades. It's doesn't have to be that sparse.
