If they go to the third round then it's a great contract...

Re: Toews to WPG
Winnipeg is not about to lose any sleep over giving the local boy with 3 cups to his resume 2M plus incentives. Be serious.
Re: Toews to WPG
Here's the breakdown of the bonuses. This is after the $2M base salary:
So it's not performance based, it's based on games played. So would you pay a Toews $4.75M to play 60 games?Bonuses:
After 20 Regular Season GP: $550,000
After 30 Regular Season GP: $550,000
After 40 Regular Season GP: $550,000
After 50 Regular Season GP: $550,000
After 60 Regular Season GP: $550,000
Jets in playoffs + Toews plays 50 games:
$500,000
Jets win 1st RD + Toews plays 50% of games:
$250,000
Jets win 2nd RD + Toews plays 50% of Round 2: $250,000
Jets win 3rd RD + Toews plays 50% of Round 3: $250,000
Jets win Stanley Cup + Toews plays 50% of Stanley Cup Final: $1M

Re: Toews to WPG
According to Friedman and Jets beat writer Ken Wiebe, here are the contract details:
That seems a little rich for me. Then again, the Blues paid Suter $2.225M in bonuses this season, $3M total, so perhaps that’s the going rate these days.
So as long as he plays 60+ games and the Jets make the playoffs, he’ll make over $5m no matter how well he plays in those 60 games.Again, with @WiebesWorld, Toews and Jets contract breakdown:
Base salary: $2M
Bonuses:
After 20 Regular Season GP: $550,000
After 30 Regular Season GP: $550,000
After 40 Regular Season GP: $550,000
After 50 Regular Season GP: $550,000
After 60 Regular Season GP: $550,000
Jets in playoffs + Toews plays 50 games:
$500,000
Jets win 1st RD + Toews plays 50% of games:
$250,000
Jets win 2nd RD + Toews plays 50% of Round 2: $250,000
Jets win 3rd RD + Toews plays 50% of Round 3: $250,000

I wouldn’t pay him that much for 82somni wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 13:30 pm Here's the breakdown of the bonuses. This is after the $2M base salary:So it's not performance based, it's based on games played. So would you pay a Toews $4.75M to play 60 games?Bonuses:

Re: Toews to WPG
At least Suter has been continually playing. Being that age and out for a couple years, plus being a forward, I just don’t see it. I could be wrong, but odds are stacked.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 13:32 pm According to Friedman and Jets beat writer Ken Wiebe, here are the contract details:

Re: Toews to WPG
How much bonus does he get if he steps into play goal in road playoff games?

Re: Toews to WPG
See what? He’s stepping into an established core where he can be a leader with experience in a reduced role.netboy65 wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 14:16 pmAt least Suter has been continually playing. Re: Toews to WPG
You were right on this MN.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 10:12 am Makes sense he’d go play for his hometown team. Probably as their 3C. I expect it to be a low cap hit but with incentives added. But we likely won’t hear the contract details until it becomes official on 7/1.

Re: Toews to WPG
Seems pretty safe to me, essentially they have complete control of how much beyond 2 million they pay him every step of the waySTL fan in MN wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 13:32 pm According to Friedman and Jets beat writer Ken Wiebe, here are the contract details:
