The teams outside of our division that could use a third baseman of Arenado's limited caliber are basically Detroit and Minnesota.

He is still a plus/plus defender and an above average bat.
But then you have to factor in:
Age
Contract($37M owed 2026/2027!)
Cost in talent to acquire?
*No trade clause!!!!!

Even if they get little in return they might be forced to send more $$ than comfortable with?
In that case might be better to keep him at least for the start of 2026??
Above average bat? His OBP is .304.
Again....opinions vary.
I guess it depends on what constitutes “average”??

His 93 OPS+ is seven percent below league average. He's not getting on base nearly enough. We're close to the halfway mark and he has just 19 XBH so the slugging isn't there either. To move him would probably require him to expand his acceptable team list to include one with a desperate need. And I couldn't imagine someone acquiring him as a 1B when cost controlled or AAA 1B could be had.

with Nado's selfish inflated sense of worth turning down all trades, we're stuck with him

MLB average 3B OPS is .710. Arenado is at .692. Thus he’s below average.

If he has a great season, and he is currently having one, he would be wise to opt out and sign a new longer term deal after his age 31 season.

Then the Red Sox may be looking for a 3B and Arenado is friends with Story. The Green Monster would also be his new friend.
The Athletic reported that the Sox ditching Devers makes Bregman "an opt-out waiting to happen". Meaning after this season the Bosox would have jettisoned or FA-lost Betts, Bogaerts, Sale, Devers, and Bregman all over a few years. It's showtime NOW, whether they're ready or not, for Kristian Campbell, Roman Anthony, and Marcelo Mayer to justify their sky-high expectations.

No doubt the Eastern Sports Propaganda Network will keep us aware of their every living breath, and probably televise live every Rafael Devers at-bat with the SFG.

Rumors have them once again being in payroll slashing mode and T. Story could be next to go.

The ONLY reason NADO would even waive his NTC would be to play w/his pal Story.

If his agent gets wind of Story being moved, no way NADO ways.

But again, I don't see the Sox calling for him.
I don’t see many teams interested in Nado.

He retires a Cardinal?

They might, I doubt it, but I don't know Boston all that well.

But like when Houston traded Tucker, I've got to at least suspect that Arenado's interest in playing in Boston is now less than it was now that Devers is gone.

Assuming they want to lower payroll they can do that once Gray and WC contracts are up. At that point I think they can afford to keep him. Have your token old guy and he would look good in a red jacket eventually.

So yeah I think he does retire a Cardinals.

I don’t think his bat will age well but who knows and he is a house hold name. Good for marketing and sales

There are rumors he is going to opt out…….

They are enhanced by the stories of the Sox slashing payroll and moving players…

Supposedly……Alex Cora is on the hot seat too..

Even in the event that Boston did want him why would NA want them?

The arms race in the NLW might have a team want him or the one
in the NLE.

The mlb ops is .710 and his is .692

Also he has a 93 ops+
ops+ accounts for park factirs and 100 is automstically average. He was 101 last year and 93 this year. While this yearnisnt complete, theres been a steady decline outside of 2022 so it stands to reason he wont finish above avg and be average at best. My guessnis hebwill be below average still at seasons end.

Theres almost no basis to assert him as above average at this point. Numbers dont lie. You simply are overrating him because of name. His rbi numbers will drop now thathe was moved down lineup. Rbis are a product of batting order

Sounds like a lot of anxiety in the world. Rumors, and stories, and supposedlys... Maybe they'll just tear down Fenway altogether!

I would think that the only teams interested in Arenado would specifically want to play 3B. You are losing his value if you're not playing him at 3B for his defense.

I don't think he gets traded, for various reasons mostly detailed here.
BUT, as a strong pull hitter, he'd get a lot of doubles off Fenway's green wall, and some more homers. That is, Boston could have been a very good fit for him offensively.

Personally, I like Nado and think he still adds a lot to the Cardinals team. Hopefully, he'll rally to get above average OPS.
