I like Oil giving VSII a breather today, kids in a horrible slump (Last 42 PA: .056 .171 .056 .226).

I'd have liked to have seen Norman rewarded w/a start at 2B (Donny in LF and Bison on the bench).

Hope we can give Kershaw yet another bad Cardinal memory before he hangs em' up.

GO CARDS!
Especially with barrero in cf, having burly in rf is scary OF defense.

We should've learned by now wattage, Burly is an Oli favorite.

No way Gorman, after yesterdays big game, should've been benched for Bumbles to play today. ::crazya::

Oli "The Cooler" strikes again
Burleson has been one of our most consistent hitters lately and deserves to play somewhere. Its Nootbar and Scott who have struggled lately. But complain about Oli it's your favorite thing to do.

Oli "The Cooler" strikes again
According to 101ESPN the other day, they said Oli does this so players like Gorman can build confidence and feel good about their game for a few days in hopes it carries into the long term, whereas going out and putting up an 0 fer against Kershaw would likely send his head back to square one.

It's not the worst idea I've ever heard.
Oh I hope that’s not true if so oli is more dumb than I thought. A player isn’t going to be riding the bench several days feeling good they’re going to be frustrated thinking what more do I have to do get in some games? Then they will probably start pressing
Mo and the game strategist make the lineups. Oli just delivers the copy to the ump.

Another day another bunch of Ollie bashing! With all the complaints I almost forgot we won the last two games against one of the best teams in the game. I guess we would have won them better with Ollie not being there!

So which way is it? Does Oli make the dumb lineup choices that have us several games over .500 like some of you say, or does his coaches and front office dictate them to him like some of you say?

And yes, I think Ollie has done a fine job juggling an imperfect roster thks year. As do most national writers who actually know about baseball. The roster construction is not his doing.

Too bad M. Carp or M. Adams aren't in the house today to say "hello" to Clayton.

They should bring Matt Adams in for today's game. He can sit and smile at Kershaw and perhaps wave and point to where his homer landed. ... That nlds game many years ago was amazing. Great memory ... maybe not for Clayton... ;)
That was insanely great. :D

Or M. Carpenter who Kershaw has to still see in his nightmares!
Well, then, that makes two of us.

Agree that Barrero in place of Scott makes good sense.
Burleson is hitting .125 /.176 against LH pitching this year.
Gorman is .143 / .278.
And, as you correctly point out, Donovan is a far better defender in the outfield than Burleson is.
Also worth noting that Gorman not only won the game for STL yesterday - but is 7 for 15 (plus a walk) in his last 4 starts with a double, triple, and HR.

Really made no sense not keeping him in the lineup today and Burly on the bench.

Someone posted Oli likes to sit a young player and let a guy like Gorman keep the "good feeling/taste" after a good game like he had yesterday.

I think that's idiotic, keep the "hot" bat in there and see if they can build on it.

There's nothing like facing live pitching to keep you sharp.

Correct.
Gorman has been proving of late that if he is giving consistent opportunity, he will produce.
But he is another key point.
If Burleson was on the bench, he would be available to PH against a RH at a key point in the game - and is his skill set is better suited for that situation than Gorman's is.
Bottom line.
The Marmot continues to make very strange lineup decisions.

But be careful, the Oli bandwagoners are coming out of the woodwork.

McG strikes out Freeman on 3 straight pitches, but the count is 2-1. Good grief.
