Honestly not a bad idea for them. Its also very possible blues wouldnt match since we have binny under contract and ellis seems ready to make the jump. Hed be a good target for teams since blues actually could be willing to let go. It also wouldnt surprise me if blues made a trade of his rfa rights either since we do have ellis.ZouMiz2424 wrote: ↑06 May 2025 13:42 pm He is an RFA, I could see the Oilers looking for revenge because he'd instantly be their #1

Re: You think Hofer will get an offer sheet ?
His comparable falls somewhere between Dan Vladar and Jake Allen at this point. His development as a potential number one guy took a slight I believe this year. Not clear at all that he can come in and assume a starting workload. If someone offers over 4.5 AAV, you probably walk and take the first and third especially with Ellis (and maybe Zherenko) in the wings. 3 to 3.5 AAV is fair for him and reflects spending nearly 10 mill on goaltending which Armey hasn't done for awhile. The more mileage Binnie has ( have to assume he is on the olympic roster) , the more key it is have someone solid at number two and not go cheap.

$3-3.5M for 2-3 years sounds reasonable to me. Depends on how many RFA years he has left. Don’t care enough at the moment to look it up but doubt they’d want to walk him right to UFA status. They’d want his next contract to end with 1 RFA year left or probably but a UFA year or two.

Re: You think Hofer will get an offer sheet ?
2 seasons left until UFA status iirc, think it's after 2026-2027 season. Might see him get a single year deal? i don't think his camp wants a 3-4 year deal around 3 and change, probably believe he can get to 1A status at minimum which would bring 4.5-7.5 depending.
Re: You think Hofer will get an offer sheet ?
To me, 3 years is the goal. He and Binny hit UFA the same year (2 years). If you go 3 years rather than 2 you don't lose both goalies in the same off season (potentially). You can gauge Binny's interest in extending, it he's in you can flip Hofer with a year left on his deal and bring up whoever is next. If Binny's out you have a year to see what Hofer looks like as a starter before you either go a different direction or pay the man.JoshInFenton wrote: ↑06 May 2025 17:56 pm 2 seasons left until UFA status iirc, think it's after 2026-2027 season. The question that I haven’t seen addressed yet, assuming Ellis is ready to make the jump, is he ready for a 50-30 split? That seems close to the number Binner needs to stay fresh, especially if he is Canada’s Olympic goalie and doesn’t get the break everyone else does

Not right away. He has not even played a regular season game yet. Yes he has a seeming future but if you lose Hofer you have to bring in someone with experience. That prospect alone makes you think that the Blues will match up to the limit for the second round compensation.netboy65 wrote: ↑06 May 2025 18:45 pm The question that I haven’t seen addressed yet, assuming Ellis is ready to make the jump, is he ready for a 50-30 split? Exactly. That’s why I don’t let him go unless it’s really worth it.IsDurbanodoingtime wrote: ↑06 May 2025 23:21 pmNot right away. He has not even played a regular season game yet. I think there is a window of concern between 3 and 4.4 million.
I really don't want to pay more than 3 or lose him for a 2nd round pick.

Re: You think Hofer will get an offer sheet ?
Well, if it nets us a #1 next year then I would gratefully take it. Next year's draft is supposedly stacked, Binnington is under contract, and if we can find a serviceable backup for cheap then having more draft capital to trade with for players you need isn't a bad thing. If it doesn't net us a #1, then I would see if we can reach a mutually beneficial deal that would see Faulk or Leddy go to the Oilers for a player we need and is on an expiring contract. Not sure if that could be worked out with the Oiler's cap situation but who knows.ZouMiz2424 wrote: ↑06 May 2025 13:42 pm He is an RFA, I could see the Oilers looking for revenge because he'd instantly be their #1

Re: You think Hofer will get an offer sheet ?
This is a fair point. The RFA compensation range for a 2nd round pick a year ago was $2,290,458 - $4,580,917. It’ll be a bit more this year (numbers are usually released sometime in June).
I’ve been maintaining that the Blues likely wouldn’t let Hofer go unless the compensation hit the 1st and 3rd range ($4,580,918 - $6,871,374 a year ago) but if a team gave Hofer the highest dollar of the 2nd round range (precisely what the Blues did to the Oilers with Broberg) then I could see them think about not matching as he’s just not worth that amount yet.
Hopefully Doug can get it done for a more reasonable AAV.
Re: You think Hofer will get an offer sheet ?
Not to us anyway but I would for sure be ok with that $ for some other teams. The Oilers would be one of those teams but it would be tough for them to afford it but depending on how the playoffs play out for them they could decide to find a way to afford it.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑07 May 2025 07:33 amThis is a fair point. Yeah, I could see it. Probably not Edmonton unless they’re really able to cut Cap elsewhere but I could see some team being willing to gamble trying Hofer as their starter or at least 50/50 platoon guy. I personally wouldn’t be willing to make that bet as it’d require paying Hofer $4.7Mish a year and cost a 1st and 3rd. I just wouldn’t be able to justify that risk on him only playing 30-31 games the last couple seasons. He put up decent stats but doing that as the backup is different than trying to do it for 50+ games…and I just don’t see a team willing to pay Hofer that much and give up those assets if they would just plan on him being their backup.skilles wrote: ↑07 May 2025 08:30 amNot to us anyway but I would for sure be ok with that $ for some other teams. Oh no I don't think anyone will do that but I think a "Broberg offer" is logical.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑07 May 2025 08:56 amYeah, I could see it. Isn't he eligible for arbitration? Can Armey just qualify him and if they cant get a deal let the arbitrator decide? He would get a raise but not over 4 aav.
