You think Hofer will get an offer sheet ?

Post by ZouMiz2424 »

He is an RFA, I could see the Oilers looking for revenge because he'd instantly be their #1

He's not needed in Chicago with Knight, Soderblom and Commesso locked in...

Doubt the Oilers have cap. Anything less than $4.5M (2nd rd comp) Blues will match. If they want to offer more than that, Blues will accept the 1st and 3rd rounds picks I would think. Ellis appears ready to be a back up any way.

The Oilers #1 pick in 2026 has a condition on it to San Jose, so I'm not even sure they could use that as compensation.

basically if the blues can't reach an extension other teams can offer sheet. the blues then get the decision to match or take the compensation. so he either signs before, or his agent tells him the market is hotter.

In my opinion he is a super nice back-up who helps us remain a threat if Binner is injured. Whatever happens, that should definitely be kept in mind.

Could he? Sure I guess, but the odds of him getting offered something the Blues can't/won't match are pretty slim.

To get to the number they won't match they would have to offer him an amount that would end up giving in compensation what a team just isn't giving up for a back up (to this point).

Also, there is likely some trepidation from teams based on his up and down season where he had multiple games, in a row even, of giving up a goal on the first shot.

The way I look at it is, Ville Husso was a lot more accomplished his RFA year than Hofer is and all we got for him in a trade was a 3rd rounder for his rights.

i just can't see a team offering him an amount that would result in them giving up a 1st and a 3rd when they could likely snatch up someone of equal ability (at this time) during UFA.

Agree with this.

The Blues will have the cap space to match anything they want. But if a team wants to way overpay and give us big assets for him? Then sure, maybe. But I doubt that happens.

And yeah, the Oilers in particular just don’t have the cap space to do it. Not with Bouchard needing an extension as well.

Other teams will have the ability to offer sheet Hofer though. But if I had to guess, I’d say Army gets him re-signed before he becomes eligible to sign one.

Husso was a UFA when the Blues traded him. They traded his signing rights for a 3rd rounder which they used to draft Aleksanteri Kaskimäki who is a pretty good player. They did well with someone they were going to lose for nothing since they were not going to resign him.

My bad you are correct.

I still don't think you get much more in a trade for Hofer. Maybe a second, or a low first at best.

I don't think the Blues are looking to trade Hofer, but I don't know do think Ellis is close. This premise was what happens if he gets offered. I firmly believe the Blues would match if it was only a 2nd round pick comp / $4.5 aav offer sheet (aka what Broberg got). If someone wanted to offer more than that so was a 1st and a 3rd, I think the Blues might accept at that point.

Not re reading all of this but not much said here on just what the blues will/would offer?

3 - 3.5m short term bridge?

If they are in the dark on the market not sure an agent could really assure Joel of getting an offer sheet at 4.5

My guess is Hofer will get $3-$3.5 per year from the Blues for 2-3 years. Binnington has 2 years left on his deal. If another team wants to offer him more, Blues may or may not match depending on offer.
