Some have called for Scott to leadoff. Some have been ok with Scott staying 9th as the double leadoff.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑02 May 2025 07:55 am Good Friday morning.
My old school ways said that the lead off hitter just gets on base; anyway. Noot works.
The second hitter must have the best bat on the team. Bunts slap hits, and hits. Minimal power. Fast. Rarely K’s. Few DP
Number three is semi fast, hits many extra base hits, around 20 home runs and 85 rbis. Few DP and few K’s. Think Clemente.
Number four is cleanup. Homeruns to 25-30, 100 rbis slow do’s and will strike out. We don’t have this guy.
Number five is a number three clone but less of everything. Slower. 15 homeruns 65 RBIs k’s a bit, more DP.
Nolan is a five. Need Herrera to hit fourth.
Thoughts.
Nootbaar is a good guy to have at the plate with Scott on base.
Donovan has the best #2 hitter skills that you outline. He can hit anywhere. But with a fast runner on first, Donovan has the skills to aggressively put the ball in play and he can easily pull ground balls through the hole on the right side.
So you could argue for Scott-Nootbaar-Donovan hitting consecutively 1-2-3 or 9-1-2.
Winn is the interesting player in that mix. When he's right he works really well as the guy that can punch the ball through the right side as well. He's also a fast runner who sets up well for a good hitter like Donovan with the skills we explained.
I think when everyone is healthy I'd do the following.
LF Nootbaar
SS Winn
2B Donovan
1B Contreras
C Herrera
3B Arenado
DH Gorman
RF Walker
CF Scott II
A lot of exciting skills in that lineup. Starts of with a mix of contact and speed. Then you have good rbi men 4-7.
It becomes interesting if someone like Gorman starts to show more consistency. I'm starting to hope Arenado gets moved. Then you can create more playing time for Gorman (and Saggese) and see where they all fit best.
