Arenado should hit in five slot.
Good Friday morning.
My old school ways said that the lead off hitter just gets on base; anyway. Noot works.
The second hitter must have the best bat on the team. Bunts slap hits, and hits. Minimal power. Fast. Rarely K’s. Few DP
Number three is semi fast, hits many extra base hits, around 20 home runs and 85 rbis. Few DP and few K’s. Think Clemente.
Number four is cleanup. Homeruns to 25-30, 100 rbis slow do’s and will strike out. We don’t have this guy.
Number five is a number three clone but less of everything. Slower. 15 homeruns 65 RBIs k’s a bit, more DP.
Nolan is a five. Need Herrera to hit fourth.
Thoughts.

Re: Arenado should hit in five slot.
I grew up with similar background as you. I learned that the 2nd guy should hit balls to the right side with runner on 2 nd to move him to 3rd etc.
The game had changed though. The big middle of the order bats of yesteryear are often early in order.
Example Mets…. Lindor, Soto, Alonso are often their first 3 batters.
The higher you bat in thr order the more likely you get an extra at bat late in a game. Those 1st and 2nd guys can get that 5 th plate appearance especially if your team bats in thr 9th inning.
Years back Soto would have been 3rd hitter not 2nd with Alonso cleanup 4th Nov 3rd

Re: Arenado should hit in five slot.
I’m not totally disagreeing with you but I wonder if Marmol is thinking Arenado 4 WC 5 to give Arenado some protection and possibly better pitches to hit. When Herrera returns from the DL then possibly WC 4 NA 5 and Herrera 6 to give NA that protection.
I think NA at this point is the weaker hitter of the 3 but if you put him in between those two maybe he gets better pitches to hit.
As far as the top 3 we don’t have the perfect hitters to put in those spots but I think Noot Winn Donovan is the best we have.

That’s a very good thought. And maybe the answer.IndCard75 wrote: ↑02 May 2025 08:18 am I’m not totally disagreeing with you but I wonder if Marmol is thinking Arenado 4 WC 5 to give Arenado some protection and possibly better pitches to hit. Nice write. Soto would be today’s Roberto when he hit third.ramfandan wrote: ↑02 May 2025 08:15 am I grew up with similar background as you. I learned that the 2nd guy should hit balls to the right side with runner on 2 nd to move him to 3rd etc.

So you are saying that Noot, Winn, Donovan (the best we have) is not quite what the Mets have with Lindor, Soto, and Alonso.?IndCard75 wrote: ↑02 May 2025 08:18 am I’m not totally disagreeing with you but I wonder if Marmol is thinking Arenado 4 WC 5 to give Arenado some protection and possibly better pitches to hit. Man. Not saying the Nets three are better, but they sure do play with a different style per position.ramfandan wrote: ↑02 May 2025 08:28 amSo you are saying that Noot, Winn, Donovan (the best we have) is not quite what the Mets have with Lindor, Soto, and Alonso.?IndCard75 wrote: ↑02 May 2025 08:18 am I’m not totally disagreeing with you but I wonder if Marmol is thinking Arenado 4 WC 5 to give Arenado some protection and possibly better pitches to hit. Oh no… we aren’t close to the Mets. I meant on the Cards those 3 are the best we have to hit 1 2 3.ramfandan wrote: ↑02 May 2025 08:28 amSo you are saying that Noot, Winn, Donovan (the best we have) is not quite what the Mets have with Lindor, Soto, and Alonso.?IndCard75 wrote: ↑02 May 2025 08:18 am I’m not totally disagreeing with you but I wonder if Marmol is thinking Arenado 4 WC 5 to give Arenado some protection and possibly better pitches to hit. he needs to hit period, this obsession with where people hit is weird...sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑02 May 2025 07:55 am Good Friday morning.

Problem is we don’t have a 4 on roster. I think they were hoping for Gorman but that won’t work.

Re: Arenado should hit in five slot.
How is that weird. It’s so engrained in the game, the lineup, that it even gets presented to start a game. I’d think talking about the hitting order would be one of the top constant topics.jbrach wrote: ↑02 May 2025 09:02 amhe needs to hit period, this obsession with where people hit is weird...sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑02 May 2025 07:55 am Good Friday morning.

Re: Arenado should hit in five slot.
Over his last 84 PA, Nado is hitting .187/.274/.347. I’d definitely think about moving him lower in the order.
Re: Arenado should hit in five slot.
The Cardinals have not had a prototypical cleanup hitter type for the last couple seasons.
