Burleson's hitting drought doesn't add up. I feel the Cardinals know that. And will give him a lot of leash to get back on track. Until he does, Herrera has to be given some DH time when he returns.

Why does it not add up? He’s chasing more than ever. Even last year in his “breakout” year he had a .735 OPS, which is below what you’d want to see for any player like him. In 2024 he had 58% of his RBI over a 2 month period and 62% of his HRs over a 2 month period. He was bad in 2023 and was given far too much PT. And he’s stunk this year. And his expected numbers are worse. His expected average is .209 and expected SLG is below .300.

It adds up if you'd just pull your head out of the sand and listen to what so many people have been telling you for over two years.

Just a few days ago, you claimed the Cardinals know what they have in Saggese after just 40 PAs, so why aren't 1,087 PAs enough for them to know what Burleson is? Why does Burleson deserve far more "leash" than you've ever been willing to give any other Cardinals player? Sure seems like a glaring double standard, Shady.

Burleson is a AAAA player and it seems the FO finally realizes it. They no longer allow Oli to prioritize his PT over Gorman's. I doubt Bloom keeps him next year. He will start a game or two a week but if they are smart his leash stays retracted. He certainly isn't a comp to Carew or Votto.

If they have determined it is best to move Herrera to DH and/or another position fine.
But....since this is a bit of a transition it doesn’t hurt to evaluate his catching a bit longer.
Either way I expect his bat will be in the lineup.

He should have been moved to outfield 2 years ago as I was first to understand and advise 2 years ago.
That is where his RH bat is needed.

No you weren't

"They no longer allow Oli to prioritize his PT over Gorman's". Gorman is almost as much of a delimma as Burleson is. As is Walker.

I thought this thread was supposed to be about Oli's seriousness on Herrera getting at least an at bat at DH.

Why does every Shady thread have to be hijacked by himself and turned into a Burleson thread by the 2nd page?

-------------------

Oli will get Herrera at least an at bat at DH. TRUE.

and he's considering it.....also TRUE

Relax and just try to discuss Cardinals baseball. Your consternation is unwarranted. You are the one that is the primary hijack culprit. You just have to bring in some Shady criticism. Grow up !

Shady wrote: 01 May 2025 09:26 am Could that be the most prudent way to utilize what Herrera does best, hit? And stay away from where he is suspect. Especially, considering what the other catchers bring. As well as looking ahead to the catchers coming along in the organization.
That would require keeping Pages, Pozo, and Herrera on the active roster - which is not practical.
Why is it not practical? Send down Baker when Herrera comes back. He doesn’t bring much to the roster and is 4 for 28 over his last 34 PA. He has a career .327 SLG% now.
It could happen, probably should.

Unless there are concerns about IH knees, I don't
think they pull the plug on IH in the catcher position
for Pozo.

I'd give him a 1B mitt and look for a team for WC if me.
Yeah there's that whole NTC thing.

True, but unlike Burleson those two have high ceilings.

Problem is, they both have been in the basement, offensively, for too long.

I’m beginning to think something is wrong with you.

You called Pages a ‘JAG’ all of spring training and made it very clear Herrera should be the starting catcher.

Burleson: Career .699 OPS
Gorman: Career .731 OPS
Walker: Career .713 OPS
