So is the hitting coach still good?

I never advocated Winn out of the lineup because his glove plays. Using your logic, putting WC 9th makes sense, no?

My grandmother taught me there is always something positive you can find in every tough negative situation.

So with that in mind regarding Contreras, this is for my Granny looking down from up above

‘At least Contreras isn’t hitting into a lot of double plays !’

Stick him in the two spot and drop Contreras down to 6th after sitting him tomorrow and then the off day Thursday.
I’m not sold on moving Winn there. He struggled batting leadoff last year. He’s not shown the ability to be a big OBP guy. He’s also coming around batting 9th. I think you leave him there.
Maybe.

But he's coming around and who else fits the bill that has some speed at top of the order has proven to be a good situational hitter and won't clog the bases in front of a hot-hitting Donovan?

Frankly I'd like to see Donovan hitting second but he's too valuable where he is right now.

Brant Brown seems to be highly successful with Scott II, Walker, and Herrera. Maybe Contreras isn't listening to the coaches' advice.

The weak hitting Cardinals of 2024 are leading the entire MLB in batting average with .293 . Of course if EVERY single player is not hitting well, the hitting coach must not be good. Shame on the hitting coach for not helping Contreras . Guess he spends too much time helping thr others leading the MLB in hitting
LMAO.

But what hitting coach was helping our best hitter(Contreras) in spring training?

I'd leave Winn alone.

Maybe let Scott lead off again and let Noot hit second with Hurdy Gurdy third.

Don’t know Contreras as to how receptive he is to coaching.
Is he seeking advice or the type to say, I can do this on my own.

His problems have nothing to do with hitting coach!
He is totally lost and not even close to figuring anything out
Swinging as hard as he can at pitches early in the count and then the pitchers just toying with him after that
It seems that the pitching coach advice isn’t something he is interested in listening to anyway.

He’s obviously not seeing the ball well. I wonder if he’s gotten used to seeing the ball 130+ times a game as a catcher and that helped him as a hitter.

Spot on!
Unless Contreras needs a coach to tell him to swing at pitches over the plate instead of nowhere near the plate??

This is purely speculation but..

Contreras does not seem like a very bright guy. He is talented, dedicated & passionate but certain nuances of the game seem to elude him.

And for that reason im not worried about his slow start. Guys like that are immune to prolonged slumps bc they don't let the past linger.

I agree with your assessment, but isn't 20 strikeouts in 40 at bats and no other production a prolonged slump?
