Not sure I would say that. The Cardinals faced 3 good SPs in their 3 games. The worst one, Bailey Ober, had 2 starts last year (including his first start) where he went 2 innings or less and gave up 8 or more ER. He still finished with a 3.98 ERA for the season. Opponents hit .198 with a .618 OPS against him after opening day last year. Could very well do the same this year.

Obviously two frustrating games. Should have at least won one!
Especially since the Angels have been a joke for over a decade.
That being said getting a win and 4-2 looks really good.
Red Sox have been struggling as have the Pirates.
I’m encouraged by the younger guys at the plate(Scott, Walker, Gorman, Baker, Herrera, etc).
All five starters had solid first outings.
BP needs to round into form.
Still early of course!

Not who you asked, but what's funny to me is that after a few laughers, we get a couple of games requiring managerial input. And they are (upset) away. I don't know if that's funny or sad though.

Yet CT says a manager has no WaR. Or has no bearing on outcome.

Obviously, the last two nights prove otherwise.

Because they didn't hit with RISP or the pitchers walked a few batters?

I was in here after the Twins series suggesting that it didn’t mean much about what this team ultimately is going to be. The same is true of these two games. What’s fair is fair.

Looks like he is quickly maturing into a productive role.

Question is if he keeps hitting will he be able to adjust when the league eventually does.

I hope he keeps up with the dropping bunts down occasionally that will force them to play further and further in instead of being able to play back and more hard hit grounders will get through

Okay, but the starting pitching has been good.

And the young hitters we were worried about are all hitting.
