Koperniak is an undrafted free agent, so the Cardinals have $0 invested in him.
Sometimes those guys get the short straw for no reason other than the org has $ invested in someone else.

Kid got screwed for Siani who is a waste of a roster spot and only here because of Oli.

Last I looked:

-VSII won a MiLB Gold Glove playing CF
-Donovan won a Utility Gold Glove (more so for his play in the OF where he was a +4 DRS vs 2B where he was a -3 DRS that season)
-Noot is a well above average RF (+9 DRS from 2022-2024)

And how many games do you really think that trio of above average defensive OF'ers would cost the Cardinals in the 8th/9th inning vs games saved by the great Sinai?

One?
Two?

Meanwhile all Siani does is take away a bat (Koperniak) who could win way more games and a solid utility middle infielder who can also hit (Fermin).

It's the only thing that makes sense.

Crushed it at Memphis last season. Killed it in Spring Training. 4-4 last night against Cardinal pitching. Decent glove, runs well.

Why is he not on our 25 roster? Scott the starter in CF. Noot the backup. If this is truly a reset, why wouldn't you give him a shot over Siani? I'd rather have him on the roster over Baker. Heck, I'd rather see him over Burly. And of course, when is the last time anyone feared Norman Gorman.

I just don't get it. I feel sorry for this kid. He's getting fukked.
With Donovan, Burleson, and Nootbaar he is a redundancy.

Can’t disagree with any of that.
How I wish he hit RH!
Hopefully- Scott makes it. If he flops then Koperniak should get the shot next. Or of course if Noot gets injured per usual.
I know Siani infuriates people but I can’t see him as any more than 26th man for defense only.
His future should be irrelevant.

Back to Koperniak. We need to also remember that Donovan factors into the starting OF rotation.
I think if any of Noot/Scott/Walker sit then Donovan plays a corner with Noot sliding to CF if it is Scott out. And Donovan does need to play somewhere. Of course you factor in IF and DH.
At least Koperniak gets regular AB’s. If he keeps
raking I don’t see how he is kept down unless he is part of a trade package.

Remind us again of what Fermin hit last year with the Cardinals? With Burleson, Donovan, and Nootbaar, Koperniak is a redundancy.

Thereby confirming my assertion that the handling of Koperniak (among others) is based on many factors other than making the CORRECT BASEBALL DECISION.

It will be interesting to see who they call up if/when Noot goes on the IL. Kop or Fermin.

Yep, at the end of the day, it's a multi-billion dollar business.

Koper, Barrero and Fermin are all better options than Siani. I would be po'ed if I were Koper or McGreevy, Prieto to a lesser degree.. like what more do you want???

I get the glove part, but it's not like Scott is a bum defensively in CF.

Have to admit this is a head scratcher. Were none of the others left with options? I thought he earned a look in the show. At his age it isn't as if they should expect a breakthru coming.

The problem is you are expecting rational decisions to be made using data that has been collected without bias. Since when has Moe conducted evaluations in that manner. One thing Melville does have right is his view of the bow tied snake oil salesman. Lots of room left in that dude’s brain pan for baseball knowledge. It’s never bothered him that he has very little.

Actually, Koperniak doesn’t bring anything to the team they don’t already have in spades. Siani, on the other hand, brings speed, GG defense in CF, and the ability to move runners along. Again, what did Fermin hit last year? Granted, Siani was not Jim Edmonds, but he was better than Fermin. Now, if Donovan, Noot, and Burleson drop dead, there’d be a place for Koperniak.

That is one of the things that makes the Cardinals' organization so bad today
They used to not care where someone was drafted, or how much time and money they invested... they promoted those that performed the best.

Starting around the time TLR left... they changed from promoting those that performed and deserved it, to those that they invested in the most.
