Re: OT: Any audiophiles in here???
Sorry for the wrong number on ear height.
Ear height when seated is around 43-44 inches- so a 32" stand is just about right

Upstairs I just have a couple sonos that I stream music on. It’s good enough up there.
But yeah I really like paradigm for smaller speakers. They are little tanks

JL is one of the very few subs in the REL class.
JL goes lower and measures better, and for home theater probably edges REL out.
For two channel, I still like the lightning speed and control of REL.
JL Audio are magnificent, though- well done!
Re: OT: Any audiophiles in here???
I still have a pair of them, but that’s the one area I might swap. Nice i am looking at it now, i was also looking at. NAD is so efficient and reliable ive entertained updating the power but why i guess if i have an issue i start to look aroundHarry York 37 wrote: ↑12 Sep 2024 13:47 pmI am a lucky guy...Harry S Deals wrote: ↑12 Sep 2024 11:41 amWow man great set up i dont have a DAC yet the rest of my set up is a NAD 216 THX amp, NAD 114 pre amp and a Rotel RCD-1072 disc player that has been my favorite disc player that i have owned. I listen almost exclusively to CDs i have a little blue tooth adapter for Spotify but its rare that i use it at all so in that regard i probably dont even need DAC. The NAD 114 pre is probably the weak link right now in the system once the Dyns are set up ill look for an upgradeHarry York 37 wrote: ↑12 Sep 2024 01:03 am To answer your question, I have the best rig I have ever owned in my life and I have owned some great ones.
.
The funny part is… my speakers are by far the least expensive component. If you have killer speakers and a mediocre front end, your speaker very clearly, and often cruelly, reveal the deficiencies upstream.
I have good plain transparent speakers, the NHT bookshelf 1.5s. NHT was always a favorite of maverick STEREOPHILE reviewer Cory Greenberg in the late 90s as the were a wonderful value- nothing fancy, just transparent. Cory was also a fan of NAD for the same no frills approach. He got in hot water for titling a positive review of their Integrated amp and CD player “Go NAD!”. He was a breath of fresh air, I tell you what.
I am borrowing a LUMIN U2 streamer transport and will likely buy one soon. LUMIN have a very open and lively sound that breathes- and that is a hard thing to find in “hifi” components. I married that to the PrimaLuna EVO 100 tube DAC. That is a match made in Heaven. The DAC is richly textured and has a good bit of what I call, “Natural sweetness”. With a rich and solid streamer like an Aurender, the combination can sound almost soggy and cloying. With the light and airy and lively LUMIN… it puts some well-marbled meat on the bones.
The DAC feeds a PrimaLuna EVO 400 tube integrated amp which is a game-changer. The EVO 400 feeds the NHTs and a pair of older REL t/9is.
I have killer interconnects from Audioquest and some old Tara Labs speaker cables. Everything plugs into an Audioquest Niagara 3000 power conditioner and when I changed out the streamer, DAC, and Integrated Amp’s power cords for Audioquest Tornadoes…. It was like elves snuck into my room with wet dry vac and sucked out ton of RF haze and other noise that I never knew was there… until it was all gone.
Music is a passion.
The NAD Preamp is fine. It is lovely to have the gain stage- which operates at 3 to 6 volts- not have to share a chassis and a power supply with a big amp.
I have owned or sold most all of what you own.
"You have chosen... Wisely".
If you do upgrade, here is a decent deal from a fellow in MIssouri. It might need to be recapped, but recapping a Preamp is not like an amp,https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650 ... ond-owner/
It oughtta be sweet- it has an outboard power supply for more pop and even a lower noise floor

Dude your my guy love this! I think after much thought i am going with the taller stands it will put them above the sofa and im a taller guy anyway. Based on reviews the Evoke 10 height should not matter that muchHarry York 37 wrote: ↑12 Sep 2024 14:18 pm For stands, you want the tweeter at ear level from your listening position, The Evoke 10 tweeter looks about 10 inches from the bottom of the speaker. If ear level when seated is 33", a 32 inch stand like this is very nice.

It is steel and solid, but the legs are hollow.
The big time cheap upgrade is - before you screw down the top plate, fill each leg with this- a CHEAP tweak that will make those Dyneaudios at least 10% cleaner than without it.
For under 8 bucks this is plenty. Playground sand is actually "clean"

Re: OT: Any audiophiles in here???
Super excited got everything set up, there were some issues....seller packaging was sub par a tweeter came dimpled i was able to get it back 75% there were also some nicks in the walnut veneer. Both issues are cosmetic and i can fix, given the deal im still good with it. In our view the 32" stands are a bit tall im exchanging for 28" its actually 29.25" with the floor spikes.
As far as the speakers themselves, completely different that the Mission 783s ive had. The Missions have a deep, rich bass feel they are very accurate with rock and jazz rhythm sections however the tweeters and mid range were flatter, muddy compared to the Dynes. I would agree with the reviews that the Dyn's are a straight monitor speaker they do not color the music at all they are a representation of your components. At first listen i was slightly concerned wondering if they were an upgrade at all, listening to A Night at the Opera which i had just purchased, wasnt that familiar with it however. I put on Couldnt Stand the Weather then Ella and Louis and wow esp on the Ella Fitzgerald disc, the clarity and detail in the Dynaudios got my attention. Very crisp good imaging in the room (which is not large) they seemed to be invisible. For rock i put on The Wall and increased the volume a bit the Evoke 10s had zero issue with the bass line i felt no need to increase the bass i dont think ill need a sub woofer at all. I did notice the Evokes are far less efficient than my Missions the Evoke do require a bit of umph to get them there.
I'm still tinkering i think i can get a marginal gain with a more modern pre amp but i have a limited budget I also ordered an audio cleaner for the jacks and speaker cable i'll go thru everything and clean up dust and oxidation where i can. I need to level the stands and probably add some sand. The top of the Pangea stands is smaller so ill try an adhesive putty to secure the speakers more
If anyone knows anyone that wants a pair of Mission 783s let me know i'll price them to sell. They have the original ferro filled mid range which may have degraded slightly over time theres a little wear on one of them due to a kids finger but for the price i'll sell its doubtful to find a better pair of used floor standers they can drive a large room easily and they are fairly sensitive, 90db.

Re: OT: Any audiophiles in here???
They look wonderful.
Excellent job.
If you have never heard or lived with a properly dialed in REL sub…. Grab one, yesterday.
A t/7x will startle you with all the low frequencies you were not even aware you were missing.
Trust me on that, REL are the very best subs for music. Others may claim better measurements… but we don’t listen to continuous test tones. REL’s amps are incredibly fast at controlling the explosive long wavelengths. Better than anyone else.
Anyone.
No one NEEDs one to be delighted, but ya oughta hear what you are missing.
Find a simple preamp that uses high quality parts.
The Gain stage has as much to do with the overal sound you get as anything else in the chain.

Re: OT: Any audiophiles in here???
I apologize as I always oversell REL subs.
A bonus is… you don’t need a preamp with sub outs for the music-first RELs. They come with a 10 meter neutrik cable that attaches to the amplifier’s speaker taps. The cable and sub amp present a huge impedance- like 100 KOhms so they cannot steal an ounce of current from your Dyneaudios. The actual sound best connected this way.
https://rel.net/shop/powered-subwoofers/serie-tx/t-7x/
The sealed (passive radiator design) box has an 8inch woofer with a 3 inch excursion.
The secret sauce is the iron grip of the amp. No digital wimpy [nonsense]- you get a 200 watt mosfet “monster”.

There are no such thing as audiophiles, only boomer idiots with tin ears.
