You, who are older, may became a fan at eight. Although older, you still have same or less fandom. That was how I saw it.

I played as much as you could back then. Don’t recall ever wanting to be a pro, found myself mimicking and imitating the pros daily though.OldRed wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 08:20 amI don't consider anyone who never dreamed of being a Major League player is a lifelong fan. Sure Iraqi WarCranny wrote: ↑06 Dec 2025 16:53 pmSo you actually think that complaining on one of a number of anonymous Cardinal forums gets some "grease"? I enjoy watching our team play fundamentally sound baseball
I enjoy a team that is competing to win a division
I enjoy watching players develop in the minors and seeing their performances improve (ala Joshua Baez)
I enjoy watching players who get called up - watching their parents in the stands with tears in their eyes
I don't enjoy complaining - because it solves nothing![]()
By the way, does anyone know who "Baghdad Bob" is?
And squeaky wheel can also equate to attendance, I'd say that got some "grease".

I always thought semi-pro leagues ended in the 1940's. I also thought you said once you played second base. No big deal either way.Cranny wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 08:27 amI pitched in high school, college, and semi-pro but never dreamed of being a major league pitcher. Too much of a realist. I'm guessing there is some 'exaggeration' in some people's history...especially on an anonymous internet forum. Might explain some discrepancies in what they post.
Re: After 3 awful years now the cards want to rebuild lol
I'm left handed, so played 1st base in high school when not pitching. Was only a pitcher in college. Was also only a pitcher on a semi-pro team. I was the starter and the reliever was Dave Sisler, who had retired from the Red Sox the year before, and come home to St. Louis where he grew up. Dave went on to become one of the senior executives at A.G. Edwards.OldRed wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 08:41 amI always thought semi-pro leagues ended in the 1940's.
