First episode is compelling. Writing sharp, chemistry between Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler (as John Stewart and Hal Jordan) is great. Kyle Chandler is terrific here, and in general one of the more egregiously underrated actors around. I have yet to see evidence that Aaron Pierre can convincingly play anything other than a tough, stoic soldier, but he's at least got the gravitas for that.

The one bad thing is relatively minor in the grand scheme of the show, but also hilariously distracting: the preposterous age-related casting of several secondary characters:

Garret Dillahunt (61 years old) plays a character married to Poorna Jagannathan (54yo), whose characters are parents of someone played by actor Jason Ritter (45yo), whose character is married to Kelly Macdonald (50yo)... What are we doing here? None of these actors are so important that one or all of them could not have been replaced by people in the correct age range. Macdonald can pass for 10 years younger but Poorna and Dillahunt cannot pass for being well into their 60s.

I guess I'm speaking too early as this could be a plot point, but if not what an unforced error. Anyway it's not enough to derail the viewing experience so far. But I'm ADHD enough that I'll never be able to stop thinking about it while either of the "grandparents" are on screen. It caused a lot of confusion when I first saw it because I just assumed that Dillahunt was Ritter's older brother, and then it turned out he was his father.

I watched the first two episodes last night, and can't recommend it enough. I really enjoyed both episodes. I am a huge Kyle Chandler fan (Texas Forever) and he is so, so good in this role. Dude owns it. I read a review that called it a slow burn, and compared it more to the first season of True Detective then your typical superhero show, and I could not agree enough with that more. I really look forward to more episodes and where this season goes.

I read this before I watched, and so it was in the back of my mind, and I looked them up on IMBD and you are correct, it is wild. I love Dillahunt, but why not just make him his older brother? WAY more age appropriate. Like you said, maybe they address it, but if not, it is some weird casting choices. I like all of the actors, but it is a weird "family". Forgot Macdonald was on Boardwalk Empire, but I never got past the first season of that one.

Regarding the casting/age differences between the characters, are we sure that everyone is who they say they are? So many fan theories flying around about this show. Why does a small town have a huge hospital with unused equipment and no medical staff? Who Is Sheriff Kerry Kane, from Gotham, referring to when she asks someone on the phone to "say hi to Barb"?

Considering that Damon Lindelof (from 'Lost') is one of the creators of this show, stands to reason there are a lot of secrets left to be revealed.

Really appreciate the grounded approach the show is taking to introduce the Lantern Corps.
