His bullpen management is not good. You didn't notice?vegascardsfan5890 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 20:39 pmI’m all for a good a Oli bashing but idk how this was his faultMIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 20:37 pm This is why when they get serious about winning they need a real manager. Oli won't cut it.

Such a shame.
BP was terrific all day.
One bad pitch from Strz!
This is on the offense. Too many awful AB’s with RISP.
LOL...Reds celebrate....they’re a joke!
Rebound tomorrow!

It was clearly a stupid stupid stategy to pitch to Elly. First base is open. His run means nothing and sets up the DP. He can't steal because he has a runner in front of him. There is no universe where you pitch to him there. That is BAD managing.vegascardsfan5890 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 20:39 pmI’m all for a good a Oli bashing but idk how this was his faultMIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 20:37 pm This is why when they get serious about winning they need a real manager. Unfortunately, I think Mathews only able to go 4 in game 1 is a big reason for game 2.

You’re talking strategy. The manager don’t do strategy.11WSChamps wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 20:37 pm Why would you even pitch to him there?
You put his (donkey) on and set up the DP.
Dumb.

The better bullpens have guys who can hit spots. Catcher was set up off the plate outside. Strep lays it on a tee low and in

My bad.
Thank you for catching that.
Listening and half watching on my phone while completing a couple of late day chores.
None the less, that was a routine "look the runner back and throw to first" play.
Should be made 90% of the time.

How can they do this for real. I to heard the players wanted it. If that's true. to bad. Baseball was played the same way for over 100 years. You play the game with the same rules until you have a winner no matter how long it takes. If they wanted to change a rule maybe after 12 innings all of the players reset eligibility. So everyone gets 1 more substitution. But putting a fake runner on second literally BREAKS THE GAME.cardstatman wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 20:37 pmAgree. Hate it.Frivolousz50 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 20:36 pm and the ghost runner is the WORST THING IN BASEBALL HISTORY. I war in disbelief when I first saw it and still am.
Maybe in ice hockey they should play rock paper scissors and whoever wins gets a permanent power play in overtime.
Or better yet take the goalies out and put up. little bullseyes . each team can strategically place theirs first team to break off a piece of it wins.
in the NBA they could lower the rim to 9 feet and go to 2 v 2.
You can guarantee one day they will have ghost runners in the world series.

Winn gets a lot of props from many here but he makes too many boneheaded mistakes that are detrimental here. IMO his runway is getting shorter and shorter as a starting SS here. There’s been times he hasn’t run out grounders, his bat is getting less productive, his baserunning mistake on the Jordan steal tonight cost them a run.
Winn doesn’t bring that much to the table where he can’t give us 100 percent every night. As has been stated many times, this team operates on a very small margin of error. Tonight Winn chasing ball 4 in extra innings and missing a steal sign which cost them a run were major mistakes as a part of that slim margin of error. His lack of production while Marmol continues to hit him in the middle of the order is becoming a problem. There are lots of reasons the Cardinals lost tonight and Winn was definitely one of them.

Great “physical” talent.
Unfortunately at the plate he isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.
