Lineup this time next year

Post by ClassicO »

There will be a few important rookies brought up after August 15 deadline that avoids losing a year of service.
There are three weaknesses in this year’s mid-August lineup. Here’s my hopeful guess:

1. Wetherholt - 2B
2. Rainiel Rod - C
3. Walker - RF
4. Burleson - 1B
5. Josh Baez - LF
6. Jesus Baez - 3B
7. Herrera - DH
8. Church -CF (Pereira?)
9. Winn - SS

Bench
Blaze Jordan
Bernal - plays a lot at C,1B and DH
Fermin
Pages - need backup
Everson Pereira

That leaves two positions with poor offense, but the two that need extraordinary defense.

It will take cajones to bring up all three - Rainiel, Je Baez and Bernal at various times next year, but they may not have an opportunity as those three will force it.

In a few years they could have another CF - Peete, Condon Frias or Luna - but not by next mid-August.

I read a rumor that Matt Carpenter wants to come out of retirement . . . .

Hopefully Bloom won’t do those moves for ex-Cards or wily veterans. Keep bringing up the kids and see what they’ve got to offer.

Yeah, so far I like the way Bloom operates. My MCarp crack was merely a bump for a good post.

I'm interested to see how soon Condom can crack CF in St Louis.

I'd like to keep Baez developing as a power hitting SS, and be open to dealing Winn.

Baez isn’t going to be a short stop that would be the worst possible move they could make. He will be a third baseman

Jesus Baez and Tai Peete....they need to get ALOT better. Tai Peete is probably starting next season back at AA. He's scuffling early on while trying to adjust to better pitching. And I really don't know how his first pitch swinging will play at AAA and the Major Leagues. 6-10% walk rate, while sporting a 28-30% K rate. I love the loud bat, I really do...but he needs more time...much more time.

Jesus Baez...another one who refuses to take a walk...he's always 30-40 points higher than his BA, which is usually .250 on the season. So far this year, he's has a .265 average on the year, aided by a strong start in AA in July....that's still only a .311 OBP. How does that play in AAA and the Majors?

Both need improvements.

If that's the lineup after Aug 15 I will be at every home game for the rest of the year.

I just put Peete down as one of four (maybe more) potential CFs in “a few years.” I agree that he’s not hitting well but he has tools and we only need one of the four I mentioned to come through.

I think you underestimate Jesus Baez. Yes, he doesn’t walk AT ALL but he also has a below average K% at 16% at AA. Great for a power hitter who even hits singles and doubles very hard. And he can play a position desperately need on this team- 3B.

In his 158 ABs at AA, Jesus is .288/.327/.634/.961 with 16 HRs. Rainiel has 14 HRs in 100+ greater ABs and RR is scary good. In fact, I see similarities in the swings of RR and JB — short but powerful swings from short but powerful guys.

Yea, Peete will probably be more likely mid to late 2028. But I also am not too worried about his AA start yet. He has a hit in 8 of the 10 games. He's got the potential. He does need to improve vs LHP (sub .600 OPS this season, vs 1.000+ vs RHP).
