Blaze needs to bat higher in the order
One of the best things about bringing up Baez is that Winn is no longer batting fifth. The bad news is that Winn is batting sixth. I'm hoping that Blaze can pick it up and bat fifth or sixth in the lineup. Today we have Fermin fifth and Winn sixth. Surely, Blaze can earn his way to the fifth spot. He's been excellent at driving in runs and does a good job of making contact. He has proven minor league power which hasn't emerged yet. It would be a great time to do this now. The bottom half of our batting order is not a huge plus. When Weatherholt is in the lineup we have five solid hitters. Blaze batting sixth would be a huge plus imho.

Wow. Blaze responds on cue. His team leading fourth triple.

A legit number five hitter in this lineup is one of our biggest offensive needs. Blaze is not quite dangerous enough yet, but he looks the part. Neither Fermin nor Winn are legit number fives.Galatians221jb1 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 13:35 pm One of the best things about bringing up Baez is that Winn is no longer batting fifth. Weatherholt wasn’t playing today so if he’s leading off we will probably have Baez batting fifth. Between Blaze and Pereira, hopefully the sixth spot will be strengthened. Winn should be batting ninth imho. Fermin shouldn’t be starting.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 15:18 pmA legit number five hitter in this lineup is one of our biggest offensive needs. Blaze should play 3b until Jesus Baez takes the job from him IMO.

Yep. This is still a short lineup without enough threats past the top four. Over the next year, we will get to see some prospects try out for #5 and #6. Baez and Jordan are here with more on the way. I agree with you about Winn and Fermin.Galatians221jb1 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 15:40 pmWeatherholt wasn’t playing today so if he’s leading off we will probably have Baez batting fifth. I'm hoping Pereira adds some offense as well, perhaps platooned with Church in CF. That would be wonderfulOzziesfan41 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 15:57 pmAgree but oli will probably make sure he startsGalatians221jb1 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 15:40 pmWeatherholt wasn’t playing today so if he’s leading off we will probably have Baez batting fifth. Ummmm?
Joshua Baez?
I mean I know Oli moved him to lead-off in game 1 for whatever idiotic reason someone else can justify, but he is an ideal 5 hitter

Agreed. Hopefully he will nail down the fifth spot and Blaze or Pereira can step up to sixth. I have noBasil Shabazz wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 19:25 pmBrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 15:18 pm

Problem with Pereira/Church platoon. Winn bats 9th ideally. If he gets on, JJ has someone on ahead of him with speed.

I think against lefties it's a no brainer to move Jordan up. There's no reason he should be glued to the 9 spot. He should have been batting 5th today. He should always bat higher than Winn, and definitely above Fermin.

Blaze needs to start showing power and take a few walks. He has done well recently, but needs to do that on a consistent basis

He was hitting 500 foot homers as a teenager from what I’ve read. It’s there somewhere. At least he’s not windmilling it like Gorman. He makes contact and goes the other way.TimTheTechies wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 19:46 pm Blaze needs to start showing power and take a few walks.
