Better Scenerio- Pitch game 1 or game 2 of double header.

Post by sikeston bulldog2 »

Good morning.

Heres one. We play a DH in Cincinnati on Monday the 17th. 1240 and 540 game times.

Chances are one of the games will be a pen game, or a Q game, or something in between.

The other game will be pitched by one of the regular starters. Question.

If you were the regular starter, which game would you want.

Probably maybe evening when it's cooler and the hitters are a little more tired

From a managing perspective, I'd probably want the regular starter to go first and have the pen game second. If the starter does really well game one, that open up more options for game two

Thanx . I’m thinking that too. Let me ask- do you as a starter want game one, and then from a managers seat. Who does he want to go first.

All this based on a strategic point of view.

I agree also managers usually start their regulars in the first game and a couple of bench players in the second game so the second games lineup usually isn’t as strong giving the weaker pitcher a better chance of winning than pitching the first game

Considering the heat, waning daylight, tired starting players. All for second game. Your position isn’t to give the better pitcher the additional advantage, but to give the lessor pitcher a better chance.

So first game- starter.

Strategy also says take that first game. So you would lean on regular starter.

Starter for first game. Always.

That will inform your strategy in the bullpen game.

Considering the starter usually pitches at night? It could be a 95 degree day? Opposing team is a bit rundown from early heat game?

Or. Does the series in Chicago matter. If we get swept, maybe your starter starts. If we sweep, maybe the pen starts.

Hi Sikes,
As a pitcher, I want to come into the 9th in both games and get 2 saves!!

I’ll take it! Now you’re the manager. You just won Cubs series. Does that change things verse losing Cub series or even worse swept.

In my ideal world, I start Joe McGinnity both games.

I would have started Wilbur Wood. He was used to that

LOL! Forgot about Wilbur. Legend has it that he would smoke cigarettes during his games and have a brewski between games of a DH. When you have that knuckleball dancing, your arm doesn’t get a lot of stress. My kind of athlete!
