If May's value seems to be low in the trade market, maybe the Cardinals could offer him a reasonable deal to retain him for another season. I am still hopeful the Cards could trade him and get a good return.

You’re right but my logic is a little different. If the return is so low why not just keep him rest of year. So we are out of playoff race and not very competitive but it would be nice to be able to get a few outs.

I know my logic is flawed and frankly selfish. I just want to watch the rest of the season and have a totally pathetic team. Frankly I don’t want to trade any pitchers.

Absolutely true.

May's value as a rental to a few teams chasing a rental pitcher also
doesn't set his market value.

I do not think May will want a 1 year deal going forward. Assuming that the Cards
even want his services going forward, I think he's a 2-3 year contract going forward.

I do think he could be signed easier though if he stays in the fold. Easily wrong.
He seems to like it here and FA has it's own stresses especially in this
off season of uncertainty.
