Time for the Ozzie Smith experiment to end
Ozzie was great hitting in the 2 hole. Good bat to ball skills, good bunter, good base runner. Aside from the base running, Jordan Walker is not an Ozzie Smith type hitter. He is wasted hitting behind Crooks, Pages, Church, Fermin, Jordan.
Hopefully after the deadline and theyre done show casing Hererra, they shift back to the lineup that was working for most of the season. This show case crashed and burned. Get the top 4 back where they belong, and give them a chance to regain their comfort groove.
Hitting your best hitter 1, or 2 works in Williamsport, where 2 runs will typically win. We see how it works with the Cardinals.
Makes me freaking sick that they continue this nonsense. The exciting team we saw earlier has turned into the 24, 25 Cardinals.
Bloom,....are you reading today bro? The show case is an all around fail. Nobody is trading for Ivan to make him their cleanup hitter!

Marmol does not know what he is doing. He digs his heels in on stupidity.

If this is his doing, it should be a fireable offense.

I agree. For years we have been told that Marmol makes the lineup. So either its on him or the organization has lied. Honestly, neither scebario would surprise me.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 17:35 pmJuanAgosto wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 17:15 pm Marmol does not know what he is doing. He digs his heels in on stupidity.

That was 30 years ago. Times and the approach have changed in many ways, so those strategies may not be relevant in modern baseball.

You enjoy living in the past. Throughout major league baseball the number 2 slot today has the highest batting average, oba, slugging and ops than any other slot in the lineup. Definitely not the Ozzie prototype lineup position.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 17:12 pm Ozzie was great hitting in the 2 hole. Good bat to ball skills, good bunter, good base runner. At the end of the day I feel like a majority of these forums would like to see what a whole new coaching staff could do with this bunch of players. Marmol and his crew need to go. I know he is just holding the seat until after the lockout. It cannot come fast enough.

I mean in my opinion he is just doing what management is telling him to do so I don't know how I could blame them for that. The owners made this change and went with this model that is purely player development to start this rebuild. I am ok with tearing it down to build something much betterStlMike1969 wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 20:30 pm At the end of the day I feel like a majority of these forums would like to see what a whole new coaching staff could do with this bunch of players. The lineup stopped working well before they moved herrera put of 2 and walker there. They made that change after herrera was in a huge slumpRamFan08NY wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 17:12 pm Ozzie was great hitting in the 2 hole. Good bat to ball skills, good bunter, good base runner. Major League managers who actually make out the lineups disagree.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 20:32 pmThat does not mean it is best.nighthawk wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 20:17 pmYou enjoy living in the past. Yep and that doesn't mean they are right. Just a new fad like a lot of other stuff in the game.nighthawk wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 20:46 pmMajor League managers who actually make out the lineups disagree.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 20:32 pmThat does not mean it is best.nighthawk wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 20:17 pmYou enjoy living in the past. Re: Time for the Ozzie Smith experiment to end
My beef is not lineup cards as much as development and coaching. Night after night I see the same bad habits in all the players. It is like no one is coaching them.TopofthePerch wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 20:34 pmI mean in my opinion he is just doing what management is telling him to do so I don't know how I could blame them for that. Ahhh....so the geniuses who never managed must be right for some reason. Rigid thought perhaps?Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 21:05 pmYep and that doesn't mean they are right. Those numbers are products of the hitters. Walker is not that. He is not a two hole type hitter.nighthawk wrote: ↑01 Aug 2026 20:17 pmYou enjoy living in the past.
