If any of this is true, I'm O-U-T on the idea of bringing him in.

Been there, done that with too many players before.

Cant we get the same production from Mailloux for less and LM at this point may have a better D game

I mean sure we could but that has certainly not been shown or proven to this point or really even close but even if we do we still need more.

IMO, the Blues are one year away from making any type of move like this. There are players to evaluate and there are players that will need to be signed. This year coming is about planning for who is worth keeping for the future and where the holes are to be fixed.

I'd be ok with that as I think it makes sense to see what Lindstein is but also at the same time it would also make sense for the Blues to think Nikishin is a much better option and that if you want him you have to get him when he is available.

Id so rather make a trade for a right shot winger than a LHD.

It's much more of a team need to add a right shot forward.

The Blues can do nothing more this offseason at LHD and they have Broberg, Fowler, Lindstein, Tucker, plus everything they have in the AHL including Rosen (a proven capable NHL player), Burns, Ralph, Koromyslov and Fischer.

There's plenty at LHD to make a push this year. You can't say the same about the right shot forwards. They need another right hand shot. Need it.

I would agree we need A RW but also think if they think Nikishin is their guy, he's available, and the price it right you don't not do it because we need A RW.

I see these things completely separate, we 100% need a 3rw but you don't not solidify your left d for 5-8 years because you need a 3RW

All that assumes we think Nikishin does that

Yeah I hear you for sure. An upgrade is an upgrade.

I was saying if I had to do one trade or another...let's propose two trades here....

Lindstein and a 1st in 2027 for Nikishin, extend Nikishin.

OR

Binner and Carbonneau for Mercer and Daws. Extend Mercer.

Pretty sure I'm taking door number 2.

Yep.

Good luck to him getting $8M, let alone “more”.

I’m sure he sees what Minty and Nemec signed for and thinks he should get more…but they were offer sheet eligible. And it was the Canes that threatened to offer sheet Minty, which is what led to him getting millions more than he would’ve otherwise.

But Nikishin isn’t offer sheet eligible. He just doesn’t have that card to play and it way lowers his negotiating leverage. Thems the breaks, bud!

No way would I trade valuable assets for this guy and then also sign him to a monster contract.

IMO, there’s a very good reason why he hasn’t been signed or traded - he overvalues himself and the Canes and pretty much every other team are currently saying no. I guess we’ll see which side budges first. My guess is he eventually begrudgingly signs a 1 year deal with the Canes and this exercise continues throughout the season. He’d be offer sheet eligible next summer so maybe that’s the way he’ll want to direct this.

I wouldn’t make either of these trades. Lindstein could end up being better than Nikishin and Carbonneau could end up better than Mercer. Why are we in such a rush to get rid of some of our top prospects before they’ve even established what type of players they are? Especially for mid level players with similar ceilings.

No chance I'd do trade 1.

I'd strongly consider trade 2.

The price, both in trade capital and in the ensuing contract for Nikisin, means it won't happen for the Blues.

As far as the idea of trading Binnington, I think the management team likes having a guy like Binnington to help make sure that Hofer is ready to take the number 1 spot, and, if you haven't figured out, Armstrong, and now Steen, do have a good rapport with players. If Binnington went to Steen and said he wanted another shot at being a starter, Steen would trade him, but I don't think that's going to happen.

The Blues do trade 1 in a heartbeat as long as the 1st is top 10 protected. They don’t consider trade 2 as Carbonneau has higher upside than Mercer and Daws is dog doo doo

Why though? I’d guess the reason for this trade is to get Mercer. But unless you think Mercer is heads and shoulders better than Carbonneau what’s the point? I’m just not personally convinced that’s true.

Because some of the smartest people on this board (much smarter than me) have been saying Carbonneau is no guarantee to make it and be effective. He's got a long way to go to be an NHL player apparently.

Mercer has scored right at 20 goals and played 82 games every season he's been in the league.

I guess the way to say it Mercer has a higher floor, perhaps Carbonneau the higher ceiling.

I'm not sure what the right move is, but the Blues need another RH shot who can score. It's going to be an obvious gap from game 1 if it isn't addressed.
