One sad bullpen
Leads the majors in walks
They are scared to challenge hitters
Recipe for disaster

It's going to get worse before it gets better.

Right now, you’re right. But overall, it’s the pen

No lately its the offense. Many of these ganes were very winnable. I don't think we have scored 4 runs in a game since we blew the 7 run lead. We scored 4 runs against the Angels and like 6 against the Reds, two terrible teams. The bullpen is a disaster but this offense hasn't scored the league average in a game even once in a week of games.

This whole team reminds me of Edgar Renteria a number of seasons back. He was the Cards SS and was totally afraid he would be traded. Edgar froze and basically shut down before the trade deadline. He did not get dealt and resumed playing well after the deadline.
Perhaps several of the members of this roster will reset after the deadline is done.
Think about this. They have to move their family to another city. They have to play around new coaches and teammates. I know they make big money BUT they are humans.
Most of the present members of the Cards are just potty trained. Mere children. They are distracted!
Hopefully the trades that should happen will. Hopefully good played come back in returns. Hopefully the players dealt do well wherever they go!

I saw somewhere where Cardinals bullpen had thrown more innings than any other team. It was a weak bullpen to begin with. The bad SP averaging 5 innings per start is leaving them exposed.

Again the organization screws up. Just like launch angle and exit velocity, we heard over and over about needing “swing and miss” pitchers in the bullpen. We end up with a bunch of 97-99 mph flame throwers who can’t find the strike zone. Bruce Sutter was as good of a “swing and miss” pitcher in history and he had to reach back to hit 85 mph.

No kidding. All this crazy focus on pitching when dead bats are killing this team. The pitching allowed 3 runs, and the Cardinals managed 5 hits.

Re: One sad bullpen
I remember when Renteria was supposed to be traded and had an interesting experience.
I was at a game and sitting next to me was a man from the Chicago suburbs who had been Renteria's host family when he played for the Kane County Cougars in the Midwest League (Class A).
He said Edgar was very upset about the trade rumors as he enjoyed playing in St. Louis -- I believe the talk was he was going to Cincinnati for Pokey Reese -- and he asked him to come down because he felt he didn't have anyone he could talk too.
I think the inference was Renteria was extremely shy and didn't take to criticism well.
A few years later, after the 2004 World Series team, Renteria left the Cardinals to sign with the Red Sox.
He got off to a horrible start, and the Boston media was relentless on him referring to him as "Chico Escuela", a Garrett Morris character from the early years of SNL.
The Red Sox traded him to Atlanta after one season where he seemed to get his career back on track.
