A large percentage of HOFers were Captains as well, but we all know by now that the Blues will never have a new HOFer on our team. Our only time to see them on the ice is wearing the other jersey. Real fun.

We don't get the Celebrinis or Schaeffers or McKinnons. That fun and excitement is reserved for all other NHL teams. However, you'll be very happy to know that the Blues get a financial kickback to let all other teams select high in the draft. That extra money gives our owners something to be excited about. Blues fans get to see the HARDWORKING CHAPS--like Kyrou.

Aaand this should be trusted, why? So much made up stuff on social media these days.

I don’t listen to Strick’s radio stuff unless someone here posts it and it seems like it’d be worthwhile to listen to but I do follow him on X and he hasn’t said anything like this there. At least not remotely recently.

Can anyone actually confirm Strick said this and if so, when?

I still think RT is likely named captain a little before camp opens.

For those thinking it’ll be Parayko, I’d be very surprised if he got the C. He’s capable but they tried to trade him, it went public…I just don’t see it happening unless things have drastically changed and they now think they’ll want to keep Colt for the duration of his contract. Which maybe that is the case as with the way salaries exploded this off-season, his $6.5M all of a sudden looks like a bargain and less of a risk as his play follows the typical declining curve due to aging.

There's a world where I believe they won't announce before camp. My post a few days ago, my opinion was they would announce once they got the group they wanted in house and back on blues campus for social media stuff. BUT, maybe to go in line with the "camp is going to be a battle and competitive," stuff that we keep hearing, they decide not to announce the captain group and make them "earn it" with the team. The only thing I don't get about that is that it is really a dog and pony show. Camp is way too short to actually be able to determine that so if they go that route, they are just doing it for the illusion that everything was up for grabs and they wanted to see who was going to run with it.

as far as Parayko goes, the Blues announced themselves that he is no longer a trade piece at the beginning of the trade period. To me that is a signal like you said, he doesn't want to leave, the contract is absolute gold. They are planning on keeping him the duration unless things really turn south and he himself asks for another chance. People have to remember, as far as Parayko and Thomas go especially, they already have their cup. To some people legacy matters more. And both have publicly talked about how they want to be apart of the rebuild. Some players like a Larkin run away from that. Some players embrace it because they know that after they retire, the team that is on the ice is a reflection of what they built. Seems like Thomas and Parayko fall into that category, and to an extent Binner as he has said the same thing.

Except for the new acquisitions these guys know each other pretty well, they play and travel together for whole seasons. Clearly Army wanted to see something more from Thomas. All I see is the on-ice stuff, I don't know what else the guy could do but stay healthy and score 100 points.

I think 18 grew up a lot with a wake up call this past season. I expect him to be captain. Steen making the decision either way.

I was reading online about team captains in the NHL and did not realize how some teams named their captains. Teams like the capitals let the players vote but other teams it is named by the head coach. Any idea how the blues manage naming the captain historically?

Same here. If they don't think we have Captain material then Steen needs to get that guy in here ASAP. Floundering around without a C is Child's Play. Get a man in here to lead this franchise.

the blues historically have taken stock from the players and coaches and the GM has made the decision. The GM has made it because of contract implications. I believe this is the case for most teams. The lettered players need to have some kind of term or intention to signing long term when they have a letter applied which is strictly the business of the front office. The coach is supposed to coach the players with the information he has given, not the information he doesn't know which is where the team is going roster wise. He might have a bit of input, but he is only privy to what the GM lets them know.

Players voting in Washington is probably a reflection of Ovi being there. When you have players who are never leaving like an Ovi or a Syd, and it's not even questioned because they are willing to take diminished contracts to stay in town, they get to have more say. When you have uncertainty like the kaprizovs, Tkachuks etc, you aren't rolling that over to the players.

The Blues won't name any Captain before the season. There is a very important exam that has to be taken by the players first. It's called the "start of the season". I suspect that Steen is as sick of the MARCH MIRACLES as I am.

If the Blues flop in October and November, we will have no Captain this season. If instead the Blues look like a contender on Jan 1, Steen will pick the player most responsible for that turnaround.
