Typical stupid "homer" attitude on here that every asset the Blues already have is better than what other teams have. Nikishin is already 4x the player Lindstein could ever hope to become. Neither Lindstein nor Stenberg are likely to amount to anything much. Both could be traded for Nikishin and it would be a steal of a deal for the BLues, but they need to include some salary going back the other way.

Nikishin (25) 81 11 22 33 18 18:11 65% oz starts
Lindstein (21) 17 2 2 4 6 15:46 47.6% oz starts

That isnt screaming "Nikishin" is 4x better than Lindstein the data is too small to make any judgements. Nikishin was overwhelmingly almost exclusively used in O zone situations wonder why? And he only netted 33 pts in overwhelming O zone starts

So Carolina with over $9 mill in cap space apparently doesnt think that Nikishin is better than a 33 yr old Gostisbehere who only has a year left or a 24 year old Nystrom?

The Blues trading for this guy and the [shirt] contract. Would be Stupid.
While the guy had a pretty good Rookie year. It wasn't all that great. While the guy did some hitting and some blocking.(Lead in those for rookies) At 24 he should. Both are things that are secondary when learning the pro game. So when comparing to other NHL "rookies" most/all others under 22. This isn't as great as it would be if he was 21.
Past that. 33 regular season points. 1 point in playoffs. To be fair. His whole game changed after that big hit in the first round. Maybe he got nervous
Add that to the fact when the games turned into playoff games his time on ice went down around 4 minutes.
Top that was when asked about him wanting 8million a year. He replied "more" with a smile.

I wouldn't give 8+ million to a 25yo rookie after just one season of good play on a team(so good) they won a cup. If we only had to give up a third round pick. Let alone a roster player and taking on a bad contract. It would be stupid.
Also thinking Neighbours is untouchable is as stupid.

My opinion is just as valid as you fools who think that Lindstein and Stenberg are too good to be traded for Nikishin. Nikishin is only 2 years older than them and is a far better player. Odds are much in my favor on this one.

Just for the record I'm not saying we should or should not trade for Nikishin but the concept is reasonable.

When the Folks who run the team sell us on a retool and we get excited about all these draft picks--the last thing we want is to trade them for a Greedy Russian who has 1 yr of NHL experience and is showing that he is all about the money.

I want to see Lindstein, Jiricek, Carbonneau and Stenberg (DVORSKY). I also want to see Jake Neighbours grow as a Blue.
As well as Snuggerud.

We were sold these prospects as being the key to our future.
I know GM went off script IMO with McTavish, and Johnston.
I get it--we cant keep all the picks . They are meerly ammunition to remold the team.
I watched Lindstein and Stenberg play in the NHL and I loved what I saw. They are poised smart players and they look like winners.
Its a huge risky move to trade these particular players. We were sold on these players. What is the point of veering from the plan.
Dont change the freaking plan. We dont need this guy. We need our homegrown 1st rounders in a note.
This thread is exhausting and it cant die soon enough. I feel very emotionally invested in this group. Its also critical to have low paid entry level contracts as well as the big contracts. I dont want to throw money at Carolina's guy. I dont give a (bleep) about him at all. Lindstein is my guy. I want to see him and Jiricek starting on the Blues. Nikishin serves no purpose here. People love the shiny new toy. We dont need any shiny new players. We need to be patient and stick to the plan as much as possible. Build from within and make a splash or trade if it makes sense. Nothing about this makes any sense. Very risky and strange.

I know this trade idea has been kicking around for weeks now and it seems a fairly even split on whether the Blues should be interested or not. I’m for whatever makes this team better but none of us know the answer and none of us have a say.

We have to trust that Steen and Army have a good grasp of the players and the ask by Carolina. Whatever happens, please be the right decision.

Agreed. I like what we have, and I don't think we need to be chasing after every single guy being dangled out there by other teams.

I appreciate the passion. The vast majority of those players that you mentioned above aren't getting traded under pretty much any circumstance.

If they moved Lindstein (who is a smaller defender) as part of a package for a larger faster LHD, with more offensive ability, I personally don't see that as any reason to be upset. Stronger defense is how to win.

That said if the Blues stick with Lindstein and feel that's the right move I'm good with that also. I like what I saw from him. Very heady player.

I agree with BluesDom for the most part. Or I suppose he's expressing Blues fans' point of view very well.

Personally, I feel like I made more of my own cool aid than any I drank from the Blues in regards to this flock of prospects, but Dom is right in that I've been rooting for these guys for several years.

As far as Lindstein, he's not 6'4, but he plays large and doesn't appear smaller than the men he's been playing against for years. He is so well-rounded because he's an incredibly smart player with excellent skating, so he can be anywhere he needs to be, similar to Broberg and Fowler. He is not offensively inept, but that seems to be the main difference in these players. It needs to be an $8M difference.

I don't have the information because I've hardly seen Nikishin play, but as I mentioned before, he needs to be an offensive dynamo with a strong defensive game for this to make any sense.

He needs to be our PP QB and blast bombs routinely because he just can't get enough, and score 50+ points while probably delivering some pain to opponents with his large frame. He needs to be, if not top pair, a legit top-3 defenseman or borderline superstar that CAR can't give the minutes to, but who we will have a permanent 20+ min a night on top lines and special teams, on the ice in crucial situations.

Otherwise, he's not worth it over what we have in Lindstein.

You can’t pay everyone $8M/8 years. In a salary cap league, you need to have players like Lindstein getting paid $863K and producing at a value of +$4M on your 3rd Line with the hope he eventually forced a move.

As we’ve seen, not all $8M players are contributing $8M value. It’s nice to think they’re a valued deal, but that’s because we’re comparing them to guys making 2x that.

2021/22 Thomas - $2.8M - 77 Points
2022/23 Thomas - $2.8M - 65 Points
2023/24 Thomas - $8M - 86 Points
2024/25 Thomas - $8M - 81 Points
2025/26 Thomas - $8M - 64 Points

2024/25 Carlsson - $950K - 45 Points (20 yo Thomas - 42 Points)
2025/26 Carlsson - $950K - 67 Points
2025/26 Carlsson - $18M - TBD - but it needs to be 100 Points

Thomas making $8M with that production is a steal. Thomas making $18M with that production + defense is tough. I’d estimate his monetized value based on production around $12M; which leaves you a very good 2nd Line D

That's how I see it. I like Lindstein. No need or rush to move him now. Poise, intelligence, very good basic skills, maybe not elite, but no glaring weaknesses. Give him some more time to prove otherwise.

Harry S Deals wrote: 30 Jul 2026 09:08 am Rumor/banter seems to indicate Jake Neighbours and either Stenberg/Lindstein???? Im a hard pass on this, could be a costly move.

Id maybe build something around Lindstein + but im very leery of this dont see the need. Losing Neighbours would really ding the Top 6 and the plan moving forward
neighbours doesn't ding the top 6 but middle 6. He isn't a bonified 2nd liner/ more of a tweener at the moment. But you don't trade guys like that while you are trying to build a "core" of young guys. He's clearly the locker room guy. I forgot who told the story, but he's on the canes or was. He was talking on the spittin chicklits podcast like 3 years ago about the fall of buffalo. He said, when he was in buffalo, the team had just come off it's last playoff appearance. They had 1 down year (maybe i'm not right on this one) and then the front office started treating it like fantasy hockey. Trading away core locker room guys to get talent on paper. Team turned to garbage after because they didn't understand what made the team click. that's why you don't trade neighbours.

Lindstein on the other hand, I am holding out big faith on this guy. The team has talked him up for a couple years now. He passed the eye test when he came up too. I can see why you would go for a Nikishin, but you would hope you could do it while keeping your young guys. But they are high on Jiricek. So maybe they figure they would run out of room?
Over the last three year Neighbours has 64 NHL goals scored, Kyrou is gone so that puts Neighbours behind Thomas and Buchnevich, slightly ahead of Holloway. Thats not a 3rd liner by any means

Meh, one season, cant play a complete game, 11 goals scored and ...."More"? Lol buyer beware this has the stink of one of those long expensive contracts we end (bleep) and moaning about while also watching Kyrou and Neighbours pile up goals elsewhere. Sometimes its the deals you dont make

On one hand, he won his cup as a rookie and it’s well within his rights to chase the bag because he’s worth it. On the other hand, sucks for canes/fans cuz we actually want to keep him but it’s just illogical to give him a bag to play off side third pair. Something’s gotta give.

Not his fault, he obviously forget the entire playoffs and how useless he was after Kleven rocked him into the following month 🤭

Ridiculous ask for a 3rd pair defenseman who woke up in another country after getting rocked in the playoffs.

2 x 6.5m bridge or trade him.
