Look, I am all for raw emotion and excitement, but that can be done without disrespecting and showing up the other team. What PCA did was blatantly showing up the Cardinals.

Agree. And, its great that this early in his career he knows the importance in beating the Cubs. May or September, he might be developing the required hatred of the Cubs.

Does anybody think that Weatherholt will reach the stats that Paul DeJong had in his rookie year, half of this forum already has jj in the hof he is a good ball player but in no way is he elite

In the latest MLB poll (scouts were polled I believe ?),
Wetherholt was the leading vote-getter for NL Rookie of the Year.
DeJong was 2nd place in his ROY behind winner Cody Bellinger.
Both excellent 1st years . Unsure what your criteria is for your ‘Not elite’ reference to JJ. Maybe you could expand on that.

.228/.282/.370/.652 with 10 HRs in 429 PAs. (11.7 HR per 162 game)

Add in his third (AS) season and it's .240/.285/.437/.722 with 102 OPS+ = 2% over average - in 1,076 PAs (22.7 HR per 162 games) and 1 GG.

I'd say JJ is off to a better start. .253/.349/.396/.745 with 111 OPS+ in 470 PAs (25 HR per 162 games) - 1 Gold Glove (for sure)

The ball he hit was a line drive type HR that was at least a dozen rows back (as it hit the railing behind the section ). It was one of those frozen rope rockets that was out of the park in 2 seconds. the reason that he took a step and watched it land .

That is far different than a high deep fly ball where players watch the ball soar only to be fooled by the distance and the ball stays in the park hitting high off the wall, for example. Players standing watching those have egg on their face as they aren't hustling out of the box and in some instances may get thrown out at 2nd base because they didn't bust it out of the box.

You would NOT see JJ admiring the 2nd type scenario described above.

I just dont understand why some think that watching a homerun is "showing up" the other team. Isn't EVERY show of celebration kind of showing up the other team?

The Cardinals celebrated thecwalj off at home plate like it was game 7 of the WS. Was THAT not showing up the Cubs? Where are all if the "act as you have won a game before", or "just be a pro and trot off the field" people for that over the top celebration.

I like emotion in sports. I just dont believe one cN puck and chose when its ok to celebrate, and show emotion.
