I don’t think it was a bad idea to try. You can stir the stew but it’s still the same until you add some new ingredients.

The sharp decline started when they began swapping out parts from the initial roster. All the moves seemed sensible and hard to argue so maybe just coincidental, but they haven’t been the same since.

Before they were better than the sum of their parts, afterwards they didn’t even equal the sum. Regression to the mean…or morale and the intangibles that some think don’t matter were severely impacted? Either way, the batting order doesn’t really matter.

Herrera was struggling and Walker was hot, so it made sense. Now it makes sense to switch them back.

Exactly. But it always takes Oli about an extra week or two to do something obvious. He will play Fermin for an extra week when he has cooled down rather than try Torres... Just Oli being Oli.

It wasnt broken. JJ, Ivan and Burly were getting on base for Walker, and they were unable to pitch around Walker. He was getting pitches to hit and was taking advantage of it.

I'm probably over thinking this, but I have to wonder. Did they drop Ivan to 4 in order to give him more chances to drive in runs to enhance his teade value / interests a bit before the deadline.

With both Burly and Walker in the top 10 in the majors in rbi hitting 3-4, I can think of no other sensible reason for the switch. Unless of course they were simply trying to keep Walker's signing price lower!

8 games. Is that your line on the stand? How's he doing for the month of July and June? Bigger sample size showing regression.

Perhaps it was an opportunity to shake him out of his sub 800 last 2 months

The thing is, there was no justification to the switch. There should not have been an 8 game trial, at a lesser rbi position in the order. Not when hes leading all if MLB in rbi.

It's not the batting order. You could pick them out of a hat. It's the personnel. Crooks, Church, Nootbaar, Blaze all are under performing. Or maybe they're performing normally. Either way, any opposing pitcher really only has to worry about Walker, JJ and Herrera. That's why it hurts if any of them slump (Walker right now).
