He could be getting the call up, I just find it odd to put him on 9-11 days rest...I can't remember his exact last start. But isn't that pitcher malpractice? That much rest between starts, when they don't need to be skipped?

These guys are creatures of habit...mental taboo to mess with that.

I don't think he's taking May's spot in the rotation, he very well could be taking May's spot on the 40 man.

dobbins couldnt be recalled for 20 days after we just sent him down the other day so they couldnt recall dobbins to replace trading may. its possible they send quinn mattgews back down once dobbins can be recalled and slot back into the rotation

“The Cardinals originally said that Quinn Mathews would pitch today for Memphis. They now list Brandt Thompson and Jared Shuster as their starters for their doubleheader. Mathews does not appear through Sunday. Marmol said he would update the rotation postgame. #AClue”

Could this mean a call-up is imminent?

-Is a deal for D. May in the works?

-Is he replacing Libby in the rotation?

-What about H. Dobbins, wasn't he the likely replacement when May is dealt?

Oh. I gotcha now. Can you send a guy that is on the 40 man roster to the minor leagues without him being subjected to somebody, grabbing him on waivers? Or some players automatically become waiver eligible even if they’re on the 40 man roster? I hope that makes sense.
Could they send Gastelum down even though he is on the 40 man roster and not be subjected to a waiver pick up?
That would mean anybody on the 40 man roster could be cut. I’d maybe think about cutting Nolan Gorman off the forty man roster.
Who would want him on their major league squad, the rest of the season? I’m just throwing things out there.

players on 40 man roster get 3 option years where they can be sent to minors. if they are on 40 man roster but not on mlb team. they burn an option year.(only bhrn 1 option per year. you cant lose 2 options in same year even if sent down again) when they are out of option years they have to clear waivers to go to minors. claiming team has to add them to their mlb roster.

a player removed from 40 man roster completely has to go through waivers and claiming team only has to add them to their 40 man roster.

gastellum was added this year. he has 3 option years and can be optioned to minors.

if dustin may is traded, matthews just takes his spot on 40 man roster. along with anyone else we trade away unless the players we trade for have to be on 40 man

Yea they can send gastelum down but that woudlnt open a spot on the 40 man i think may or someone is traded or they could dump strzelecki off the 40 man they’ve done that with a couple of pitchers like him already I think they trade Gorman for a lottery pick before they cut him though
