Blue's next Captain

While I think that having a Captain in the NHL is important, I don't think that the Blues will name one this year. When they traded Schenn last year I posted here and other places that I didn't think the next Captain was on the team yet or was to young to be given a C. Will they give it to RT after this year? Maybe, and I would be OK with it. He did seem to grow up some after the Schenn trade happened. No one knows that locker room better than the players. We simply don't know the dynamic of the team. I wouldn't be shocked if they named Parayko, Neighbors or Broberg for that matter. I'll trust the personal to make the right call.

I just don't see how you have the article that came out the other day with your best player, and not name a captain. To me assigning a Captain means you have a direction. Thomas said that in that meeting, their visions aligned. I don't think you are making a sell to Thommer that the team is in a good spot if you openly admit that the team doesn't have a leader on the team.

Detroit - technically is larkin but that can't stick
LA - playoff team but retired captain
NYI -
Ottawa -- playoff team but traded captain
San Jose -

what do all those teams have in common except anaheim? They aren't playoff teams or their captain is gone.

Neither you or I know that locker room. If Thomas wants it and the team wants him then fine. Even Rivers on the Fast Lane commented on the show this week that you can't force a Captain on the team. All I'm saying is that prior to the Schenn trade, I didn't see Thomas as Captain material. He has aged some though since and he may be ready.

i mean it's no secret, he was called into a meeting with steen/army, to discuss what the plans were on trade deadline, and moving forward, and if he stays with Blues. He stated he wanted to stay, liked direction, and wanted to be a leader going forward. decisions were made in front office that day.


Very similar chat, Steen had with Army, when his direction and where his plans were going. and what Amry plan was for building the team. Steen stayed, took the C.

Neither one should really be a Captain for the coming year but yes, either one could be because of sentiment for one or not giving it to a player not yet ready for the other. Or was Bedard Captain last year and they will take it away for Kane?

I'm seeing one poster "down " on him.

Most others likely feel he's not the right guy for that job without any disdain for him.

I don't know how you can not have a captain. I mean, I know it happens...but it feels insulting to the players on the team. Are they saying they don't want to name one to start the year, or that they aren't planning to have one all season?

It should be Parayko IMO.

If they truly do not name one it just screens that this team lacks a leader and the coaches do not see Thomas or Parayko in that light.

Unless I’m misunderstanding your statement, Steen was never the Blues Captain.

It went from Brewer to Backes, then to Pietrangelo, then to O’Reilly and then Schenn.

No on Parayko and easy to see why, The team needed him to go to Buffalo for the sake of the team. He said no for his own personal sake. That's not a leader.

I would be surprised if it is ever Thomas. Thomas had to be a big part of the "massive team culture problem" that existed in Feb 2025, and what has changed since?

No on Neighbors. He's doesn't bring enough impact on game day.

The Blues are going to select a younger player that demonstrates leadership best. My guess is that it will go to Broberg if they think that he is vocal enough. Or maybe Holloway.
