Quinn Mathews getting the call?

Post by Futuregm2 »

He was originally supposed to pitch today, but Brandt Thompson and Jared Shuster will now be pitching the double header for Memphis.

Per Jeff Jones twitter:

“The Cardinals originally said that Quinn Mathews would pitch today for Memphis. They now list Brandt Thompson and Jared Shuster as their starters for their doubleheader. Mathews does not appear through Sunday. Marmol said he would update the rotation postgame. #AClue”

Sounds like they are at the least holding May out from his next start.

Could this mean a call-up is imminent?

-Is a deal for D. May in the works?

-Is he replacing Libby in the rotation? :D

-What about H. Dobbins, wasn't he the likely replacement when May is dealt?

Obviously a lot could happen before Monday deadline:
May dealt> Dobbins to rotation?
Libby to BP?(I actually think he could be a big plus there!)>
Mathews to rotation?
BP shakeup?> Stanek? Romero? etc
Noot dealt?
Too many variables. I’m not going to speculate.
Just sit back and watch.

If May is traded, we need 2 new starters for the rotation.

IF Libby is removed, yes and likely "Q"

If Libby isn't, then just one to replace May when he's traded and likely Dobbins?

Let's hope Libby's headed to the pen' and both Dobbins & "Q" are in the SR!

Im sure the front office doesn’t know specifics yet but has a pretty good idea he will be joining the rotation soon one way or another.

Wouldn’t it be wild if the team sold and made the playoffs anyway? That’s what I’m hoping for. Get these young guys a little postseason taste

Matthew’s to start Saturday, Libby to pen or traded

May will be traded and his spot is due Monday in New York I assume Dobbins gets that

Thats the logical moves

Thus it will be different

Maybe.
Probably.
Just staying in the TDL theme.
However, there is an LHP that if dealt
it would not be a surprise who last pitched on Monday.

if Mathews is taking May's next start, he'd need to pitch today in the minors or majors to keep on schedule.

you don't want him waiting around for 9-10 days rest

He could be getting the call up, I just find it odd to put him on 9-11 days rest...I can't remember his exact last start. But isn't that pitcher malpractice? That much rest between starts, when they don't need to be skipped?

These guys are creatures of habit...mental taboo to mess with that.

I don't think he's taking May's spot in the rotation, he very well could be taking May's spot on the 40 man.

Mathews could be pitching well before May's next go in the rotation

I’d say he starts on Saturday. He might be taking Libby’s spot in the rotation. His last start was on the 24th (Friday) so it’d be 8 days later.

Will take May's regular spot in the rotation
