Who do you propose trading to get a quality starting pitcher?
As much as it takes. I'm not well versed on the top 30; prospect list

That's a trade that could happen this winter.

Talkin' Baseball wrote: 29 Jul 2026 11:14 am A trade proposal with the Texas Rangers for a Liam Doyle Bookend. Target- AJ Russell. A 6'6' 22 year old second round draft pick for the Rangers last year, he is now pitching ain high A ball. What makes him a Liam Doyle bookend? Both 22, Liam LH- AJ RH. Russell has a 70 grade fastball and seems to be having all the same issues Doyle has been having. He hasn't made it through the 4th inning of any of his starts this season and is having command issues. He is ranked as the Rangers #3 prospect by MLB, but only #16 according to Fangraphs. Fangraphs also comments that he is looking more and more like a reliever. That may ultimately be Doyle's fate as well.

What do the Rangers need? They have 3 primary needs: Starting pitching as Jack Leiter has had ankle surgery, multiple bullpen pieces, and catching. Danny Jansen is having season ending elbow surgery and Kyle Higashioka is out indefinitely.

Rangers get: Pedro Pages (3.1) and JoJo Romero (1.7)
Cardinals get: AJ Russell (5)

Cards Talk says ____________.
We don't have a player we are trading to get this good of a prospect. May, Romero, and nootbar will get you some b or c level prospects. Russell is putting himself above that. Look at what we got for gray or Contreras and expect well less than that.
He's not a top 100 prospect, heck Fangraphs doesn't even have him in the top 10 of a generally bad system. I'm probably reaching some on this one, but that's why trades aren't being finished right now- everyone is reaching. Start with an idea, see where it leads. Most lead nowhere, but the more often you cast your line, the more often you get something done. We only need one or two meaningful things to happen to have a really good deadline.
I follow prospects extremely closely due to a huge dynasty league that I am in...this guy is helium this year. It takes the rankings too long to catch up. I guarantee you that the Rangers know what they have. He won't be in any return for what we have to offer.
