Re: Finally…..THE PLAN
Simply trading May and Stanek isn't going to do (bleep) to rebuild. Banking on those two moves is stupid. And if Bloom is only going to dabble in piddly trades like this, he is nothing more than Mo Jr.
To rebuild, you have to shake things up. Trading a couple free agents to be is nothing. It even signals that 2028 talk is just lip service. Stringing fans along for a couple more years.

I believe the team could compete in 2027, but it’s not a surprise to hear 2028 is the expectation with a probable lockout to begin the 2027 season.

you're finally acknowledging that they had this plan all along? We've tried pounding that into your head for well over 9 months now.

Re: Finally…..THE PLAN
I do not think that any one true fan will ever want the Cards to lose specifically or not try to win. However it does not take a rocket scientist to see that this team is more than a few players away from being competitive much less on the cusp of a playoff spot. Thereby Jim Bowden is just throwing out false hope that has nowhere to live. Bloom states 2028 because of the looming 2027 lockout. Fans on this site need to get a grip that teams are going to go minimal on contracts right now because that lockout has the potential to change a whole lot about how future contracts will be structured. If they do agree to a salary cap and a floor budget then that can be very drastic for some teams in determining who they sign, for how much and for how long. It could even have a great effect on the income of all teams. That situation has to play itself out first and with how far apart both sides are on proposals right now, 2027 may not even happen.
You cannot make a definitive stance on your 2028 team unless you know how 2027 will affect those players. That is a year possibly lost of development and production. Even if the lockout lasts a few months and it is another shortened season. You cannot properly gauge a players production during that time lost or after. No one wants to pay for a lost season also. This is a team that will do minimal horse trading in the next few days and send the message to the team that exists that is on you to make it to October baseball. Bloom is not going to throw a grenade in the middle of the rebuild. That will all come after the lockout. Before 2028 they will resign, trade for and sign aggressively to fill the holes they feel need to be filled. Until then we just accept what it is.

The Astros lost 100+ games for three straight years (2011-2013) before turning it around.
The Braves lost 90+ games for three straight years (2015-2017) before turning it around.
The Phillies lost 89+ games for FIVE straight years (2013-2017) and then took longer to get it turned around.
The Cardinals haven't even finished a second consecutive sub-.500 season and some people are ready to jump out of windows.

What's it like being that slow to understand what was spelled out going into the season?Goldfan wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 11:21 am “The plan” is for the #STLCards to trade Dustin May and Ryne Stanek at the deadline, according to The Athletic
Additionally, they will “explore interest” in Lars Nootbaar, Riley O’Brien and JoJo Romero. However, the club doesn’t feel pressure to trade any of the three
In return, they want “meaningful pieces” that fit Chaim Bloom’s timeline, which points to 2028 as the next competitive window”
The next competitive Bloom WINDOW
I mean what another couple years……’23-‘28…..that’s only 5 yrs of chit baseball. ‘28 will only be 17yrs since last WS win
Does ‘28 mean attempting to finally win or REALLY WINNING ???
Keep getting lathered up...it's weirdly entertaining.

The great thing about the cards situation is that they’re not having to start from zero.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 12:31 pmThe cubs were bad during both their rebuilds alsomattmitchl44 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 12:26 pm The Astros lost 100+ games for three straight years (2011-2013) before turning it around.

This is partly due to not parting with a prospect in the last 4 years (Oviedo). So though the farm system was a mess, it wasn’t completely bare.
Coupled with the recent ‘selling,’ the team is not that far away.
Bloom says ‘2028,’ but I think next year they will seriously compete for a WC.
Also, prediction: this is their last TDL sell off…

Finally?
The plan has been known since the off-season. The OP knows this.
23-25 is on the previous POBO. This is year 1 for Bloom. The OP knows this as well

How? By replacing all the expired payroll from the past 5 years. You have to build it first so they will come.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 11:55 amYou realize that they could win even if they trade some players away, right?Goldfan wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 11:51 amI know…..you want to lose….for at least a couple more years…..then we can winOzziesfan41 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 11:49 amWow thats impressively dumb even for bowdenGoldfan wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 11:48 amTalked with 101.1 the last couple days.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 11:47 amHow old is that? The players they could trade:
Dustin May: 5-7 4.59 ERA
Stanek: 4.46 ERA
Herrera: .739 OPS
Nootbaar: .719 OPS
Replace Libby in the rotation
Those aren’t world beating numbers.
And I don’t know how you can look at the Cardinals roster right now and truly think they could be a contender.
Goldy
Nado
Pujols DH
Yadi/Willson
Wainwright/Gray
Mikolas (not that he was worth it but still $$$)
various bullpen pieces including Matz
Helsley at Arb rates
That's a lot of salary that we "can" afford as recent history shows. Bring those level of players back in along with keeping the right core and adding in our top draft picks and we are immediate contenders next year.

They still need to develop two, young, cost controlled, front of rotation SPs (McGreevy isn't one), and then probably spend to add a third.
