Finally…..THE PLAN
“The plan” is for the #STLCards to trade Dustin May and Ryne Stanek at the deadline, according to The Athletic
Additionally, they will “explore interest” in Lars Nootbaar, Riley O’Brien and JoJo Romero. However, the club doesn’t feel pressure to trade any of the three
In return, they want “meaningful pieces” that fit Chaim Bloom’s timeline, which points to 2028 as the next competitive window”
The next competitive Bloom WINDOW
I mean what another couple years……’23-‘28…..that’s only 5 yrs of chit baseball. ‘28 will only be 17yrs since last WS win
Does ‘28 mean attempting to finally win or REALLY WINNING ???

Re: Finally…..THE PLAN
Not sure I love the plan.
Hearing 2028 is depressing. We have so much money we could spend in the off season and the team doesn’t have that many holes to fill. Geez, if we had a good bullpen this year than we’d be in a much different place right now. Let alone an ace to replace our fallen ace (Libby)
Am I the only one that wishes Pujols or Molina was managing this team? Oli seems like a great guy and I say, promote him to GM. To me, he doesn’t have the winner mentality that Pujols and Molina have. Both of those guys could be our modern day Yogi Berra. I just don’t see how we give up on trying to make the playoffs this year. You can plan long term and still go for it each year. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. Especially knowing how much money we aren’t spending.
A couple simple things that could change things. Move Lars up in the order. Batting Walker 2nd isn’t as ideal as having men on base when he’s up.
1.Weatherholt
2. Herrera (C)
3. Nootbaar
4. Walker
5. Burleson
6. Velazquez (DH),
7. Church / Torres
8. Jordan
9. Winn
Put Liberatore in the pen. Call up Matthew’s. Go get a pitcher at the deadline for the rotation and some bullpen arms. Wacha, Alcantara, Ryan, Etc would be amazing here.
Trade away, Pages and either Crooks or Bernal. Should probably try to move Church too.

You realize that they could win even if they trade some players away, right?Goldfan wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 11:51 amI know…..you want to lose….for at least a couple more years…..then we can winOzziesfan41 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 11:49 amWow thats impressively dumb even for bowdenGoldfan wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 11:48 amTalked with 101.1 the last couple days.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 11:47 amHow old is that? The players they could trade:
Dustin May: 5-7 4.59 ERA
Stanek: 4.46 ERA
Herrera: .739 OPS
Nootbaar: .719 OPS
Replace Libby in the rotation
Those aren’t world beating numbers.
And I don’t know how you can look at the Cardinals roster right now and truly think they could be a contender.

Re: Finally…..THE PLAN
2028 as the nominal date for them to really compete again shouldn't be a surprise.
They need to develop two young, cost controlled, front of rotation SPs and that probably doesn't happen until late 2027 or 2028.
Expecting them to be rebuilt by 2027 was always likely to be expecting too much.
I'm only slightly surprised that Romero isn't there with May and Stanek. Otherwise I would agree that they don't have to trade anybody else right now.
