Any doubts now?
With the second game of the Cubs series underway and MM getting knocked out in the second inning, it should solidify Bloom's thoughts on what has to be done before Monday's trade deadline.

Whatever he does is not going to move the needle. The level of giddyness over trading spare parts is mystifying.stantheman wrote: ↑28 Jul 2026 19:33 pm With the second game of the Cubs series underway and MM getting knocked out in the second inning, it should solidify Bloom's thoughts on what has to be done before Monday's trade deadline.

Just saw the score. Brutal.
Did Carson Kelly get a big hand?

I wouldn’t say giddy. It’s more like the only thing to talk about.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑28 Jul 2026 19:35 pmWhatever he does is not going to move the needle. It's not exactly like they are trading for a lottery pick. If you can parlay expiring or extra contracts into 2 complementary pieces that are cost controllable, you can trade those, other players or sign more elite players when you are ready.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑28 Jul 2026 19:35 pmWhatever he does is not going to move the needle. No doubt this team has given up.
No doubt a roster overhaul is needed.
No doubt oli cannot motivate them.

This team has quit. You can’t continue to tell players that they aren’t good enough….even though they were winning…..but it doesn’t matter….we’re trading contributors anyway. You lose motivation and give a chit

Re: Any doubts now?
I’m not saying they shouldn’t. It’s just not exciting unless they trade for somebody like an Adam Wainwright. Trading for another half war player like blaze Jordan is just not interesting to me - at least not 30 seperate new threads worth. It might make us a little bit better but it’s not nearly as interesting as Quinn Matthews or Franklin or Doyle or Josh Baez or Raniel Rodrigues eventual promotions.RichieRichSTL wrote: ↑28 Jul 2026 20:03 pmIt's not exactly like they are trading for a lottery pick. Our best draftees will out-rank our best trade prospects 9 out of 10 years.

Re: Any doubts now?
This team has turned out to be what we thought they would be.
Trade Contreras. Best hitter. check
Trade Gray. Best pitcher. check
Trade Donovan. Best 3B and versatile defender. check
Trade Arenado. Best 3B after trading Donovan. check
Trade Helsley. Closer. check
Trade Maton. #1 Setup Man. check.
Trade Matz. Best IL man. check.
Release King. Best LH reliever. check
Get better? Yeah, right.
It may be a long time until this team is good again. Average is not far away but good is not close.
Sadly, they don't have much of value to sell this year.
If Bloom gets anything much in return for May, Romero, Stanek, Nootbar, Urias then I will be impressed.
We will get something for some of them but, IMHO, it won't be much.
