This is a case where you have to decide how you value the player based on what he means to the organization. I get it from the standpoint of anyone is available at a certain price. This is a star player in the city of St Louis who just won the HR derby. This ain't Mo's mess anymore, slated to be torn down. It's on the rise now and we've moved onto locking down core players.JohnnyMO wrote: ↑28 Jul 2026 14:22 pmUsing BTV, which again is a pretty good tool for how teams value a player, the only player on your list Walker gets you back is Sheehan.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑28 Jul 2026 14:18 pmYea, it’d have to be a package likeC-Unit wrote: ↑28 Jul 2026 14:09 pm My impulse would say the return for Walker would have to come close to the Soto deal...
That might be a bit beyond reason. But I'd have to lean towards thinking that way if I was in the seat deciding to listen on him.
If we talk about whether or not we should trade him, you have to start looking at the rest of our outfielders. They all have questions. Baez (contact), Nootbaar (probably gone), Scott (can't hit), Chase Davis (overall offensive production), Church (pretty solid can improve but is he a fulltime OF or more of a 3rd/4th OF), Cho (further away), Peete (same with contact questions). Picking out of that group to form next year's outfield would make the rebuild a lot harder imo.
It goes a long way to have one outfielder who looks like a fixture.
I'm not pinning down the OP, but it seems like with this recent losing streak the pulse of the fans is switching towards blowing everything up even further. That isn't where we are. The core of the team is in place and it's primed to naturally get better very soon just on our farm system. Trading Walker would be getting way too cute imo. He's the closest thing you have in the entire organization to being a proven middle of lineup run producer, recent slump notwithstanding.
Listen on trades before 2029 if there's no extension. Still, I'd hate it. Lock him up!

And I’m sure the BTV doesn’t work out. But again, right now I’m not entertaining any packages. Former top prospect in baseball who has broken out at 24 years old. Has the ability to hit for power and steal bases. That’s the kind of player you build around, not trade.
* Josue De Paula (OF): $69.3M
* Emil Morales (SS/3B): $52.0M
* Emmet Sheehan (RHP): $12M
* Kade Anderson (LHP): $69.8M
* Ryan Sloan (RHP): $38.5M
* Lázaro Montes (OF): $62.1M
* Felnin Celesten (SS): $54.4M

When was the last game he hit a homer? I'm afraid he has stopped hitting for power. Maybe trading him would be a good idea.

Just saw today where Lazaro Montes current BTV is +23.1, so wonder if his BTV above is a typo or dated or if where I saw it on the BTV proposed trade site was wrong. Just FYIC-Unit wrote: ↑28 Jul 2026 16:53 pmThis is a case where you have to decide how you value the player based on what he means to the organization. gif aside, I love the topic.
How does the industry view Jordan Walker's TV vs. How do Cards Fans view Jordan Walker's TV
TV = Trade Value

Anything short of a haul is the wrong answer. I'm talking about a top 10 prospect that's on the brink of the big leagues within a year or two, and quite a bit on top of that.

He really isn't.Swuhgen wrote: ↑28 Jul 2026 18:39 pmAlmost 60 ABs.stlbirdlover wrote: ↑28 Jul 2026 16:59 pm When was the last game he hit a homer? I'm afraid he has stopped hitting for power. Maybe trading him would be a good idea.

James Wood HR-less streaks (PA):
60
58
39
31
Jordan Walker:
59
59
56
41
And those are just the games between HRs, I don't know if one HR came in the first AB or last AB in the games where he did have HRs. Maybe a little bit more, but not that much different.
Times having back to back games without a hit:
Walker- 6
Wood- 8
James Wood is a recognizable star at similar age, which is why I used him.

Excellent question.
The Cardinals have a long story history of protecting Faberge eggs until it is too late. I’m just hoping that Jordan Walker is not one of them.

This subject was raised on MLB Network this morning.
So apparently it’s out there.
I look at offers on anyone not named JJ, Burleson, Winn or McGreavy.

Why would you listen to offers on Walker, but not on Winn, Burleson, or McGreevy?imetsatchelpaige wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 10:15 am This subject was raised on MLB Network this morning.

Strange indeed. McGreevy, for example, is nothing special. He's a guy who needs pinpoint control and a lot of luck to even be what he is -- a No. 4 on a good team.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 10:20 amWhy would you listen to offers on Walker, but not on Winn, Burleson, or McGreevy?imetsatchelpaige wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 10:15 am This subject was raised on MLB Network this morning.

But I'd take Wood 100/100 times over Walker
Padres (Abrams in that deal too, Gore as well)

And Walker (+3.4) with twice the bWAR of Burly (+1.7) and JW with more team control left.icon wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 10:26 amStrange indeed. McGreevy, for example, is nothing special. Re: The elephant in the room: What would Walker bring in trade?
I am not interested in trading young pitching talent.
McGreavy has solid potential, and unlike you guys, I am not intersted in giving up on him.
And I'm not trading the best hitter on the team, and at the moment, that is not JW.
