We know what he was before this season.
We know what he was this season until the All-Star Game.
And we have seen him regress to 2025 standards since. (Small sample size, perhaps, but there it is).
And like you, I have no idea what happens from here.

But let's play the game. What would he bring at the deadline? Could we lock up a killer future rotation with the return?
Discuss, please...
Even if Walker isn't a 30/100 guy consistently after this season, I think that he will at least maintain 25/80 results for several years, and his RF defense, especially his arm, will continue to improve. I don't see how trading that production will be replaced with more untested prospects.

Keep building the roster, Walker will fit in very nicely I believe.

That might be a bit beyond reason. But I'd have to lean towards thinking that way if I was in the seat deciding to listen on him.

If we talk about whether or not we should trade him, you have to start looking at the rest of our outfielders. They all have questions. Baez (contact), Nootbaar (probably gone), Scott (can't hit), Chase Davis (overall offensive production), Church (pretty solid can improve but is he a fulltime OF or more of a 3rd/4th OF), Cho (further away), Peete (same with contact questions). Picking out of that group to form next year's outfield would make the rebuild a lot harder imo.

It goes a long way to have one outfielder who looks like a fixture.

I'm not pinning down the OP, but it seems like with this recent losing streak the pulse of the fans is switching towards blowing everything up even further. That isn't where we are. The core of the team is in place and it's primed to naturally get better very soon just on our farm system. Trading Walker would be getting way too cute imo. He's the closest thing you have in the entire organization to being a proven middle of lineup run producer, recent slump notwithstanding.

Listen on trades before 2029 if there's no extension. Still, I'd hate it. Lock him up!
Yea, it’d have to be a package like

Dodgers
OF De Paula
SS/3B Emil Morales
RHP Emmet Sheehan
more

Mariners
Kade Anderson/Ryan Sloan
Lazaro Montes
Felnin Celeseten
More

And I’m sure the BTV doesn’t work out. But again, right now I’m not entertaining any packages. Former top prospect in baseball who has broken out at 24 years old. Has the ability to hit for power and steal bases. That’s the kind of player you build around, not trade.

BTV is a joke!!!!

And honestly, so is how trades are made really. GMs trading contracts (years of control) instead of actual talent. I understand that years of control, $ made, etc. ae all factors, but it seems gone are the days when we actually look for real TALENT. Give me TALENT!!
All I know is when you look at trades and add the total BTV each team traded it’s pretty darn close to accurate. So as a tool to see how teams are roughly going to value a player it’s good.

Using BTV, which again is a pretty good tool for how teams value a player, the only player on your list Walker gets you back is Sheehan.

* Josue De Paula (OF): $69.3M
* Emil Morales (SS/3B): $52.0M
* Emmet Sheehan (RHP): $12M

* Kade Anderson (LHP): $69.8M
* Ryan Sloan (RHP): $38.5M
* Lázaro Montes (OF): $62.1M
* Felnin Celesten (SS): $54.4M

See it’s a joke to me that they would value players like Monte’s, Celesten, or Morales as 3 times that of Walker. Walker is a special case, too, of a player that is only 24, still has 3 years of control beyond this year, and is finally breaking out to his potential.

Rather than trade JW. Trade the Marmot (with no return policy), for anything - even air. Put JW back into the 3 or 4 hole and enjoy.

Don’t trade unless there have been some initial extension talks we are not privy to. I’ve seen some ridiculous numbers thrown around. If true I would trade him right now. We should not extend Walker for a huge contract amount.

I think I’ve said this on another thread. Sorry if I’m repeating myself.

But seriously folks,

What's it going to take to lock up Walker? If it's too much, a trade is inevitable.

I’m surprised too and would think he should be worth more. But if his BTV says it you can bet teams aren’t going to give back much more than that.

I like the foundation of the Dodgers deal. I'd package in May, Romero and a catcher (say Pages / Crooks). Add in a low A flier when they demand it.

I 'd consider Hope over De Paula. Get better pitching prospects from the Dodgers.

Hope / De Paula / Quintero
Morales
Jackson Ferris
Zazueta / Root /...

Dreaming big. We are handing them the golden ticket here.

From the Mariners side, I love Anderson or Sloan. Montes has always left me cold.

This team cannot trade position players from the MLB starting lineup for pitching. The injury risk with pitchers is too high, and we don’t exactly have a glut of minor league position player prospects knocking the door ready to take an everyday MLB spot. The team would be especially insane to trade 1 of the 2 young position players on the MLB roster that have a change to be stars long term.

Not even a little bit. Walker is crossing over from disappointing to All Star. Simple! So he has little slumps. Deal with it. A follow thru next year, which I believe a given, and the BTV will get in line ...as will discussion of MVP. The kid just turned 24. Judge wasn't any good as a ML player until he was 25.

Very much hope you are right, Huge.
A lot. Because if not, his trade value will never be higher than it is now.
