Evaluators liked Dvorsky’s skill, sense and two-way commitment. The feet are just average, though. I think he has flown a little under the radar to non-Blues fans and is going to be a really solid contributor in a top nine and potentially on a second line for a long time. I was a little too high on him at draft time, though, and thought about ranking him a spot or two lower here.

So, you think the Blues should have used a Top 10 pick on a Goalie instead of Dvorsky, who is ranked #12 by Wheeler?BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 17:55 pm Anybody see the 23 redraft from Wheeler?

10. St. Louis Blues: G Jacob Fowler
…
12. Arizona Coyotes: C Dalibor Dvorsky
Kind of silly…Actual draft pick: No. 10 (change: -2) to Blues
My final ranking: No. 8 (change: -4)

Dalibor was in a tough spot after being drafted. He was 17 and not quite ready for full time men, even if he could generally keep up with them and is a larger frame himself. He played 10 SHL games before deciding to get used to NA, joining the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League. Then he was a leader on the Slovakian team at the WJC, where he really shines. So his D+1 season was a mix of 3 different teams across two continents and 3 countries. The next two seasons were similar, as he even started in Springfield last year. He's logged a lot of games, a lot of miles, and a lot of high pressure situations. This year all he has to worry about is locking down 3C and fighting for more.
He might be the biggest breakout candidate on the team, as even a 45pt season would be double the production. However, I don't think he will ever score fewer than 20 goals again. Revisit in several more years.

Dvorsky is the 7th-best Center in the 2023 draft. You win Cups with having better talent than the other teams. Relative to the NHL, that likely ranks Dvorsky among the weakest. The goalie is the best in a strong class. It makes perfect sense to me.Snuggyfresh wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 07:08 amNothing he says is worth anything. I wonder if they try Dvorsky out as a second line wing that can take faceoffs when MacTavish cannot - I don't like him being bumped to the third line.

Re: Dvorsky?
All depends on who his wings are. I don't want to see Neighbours with him because I don't think that's the style of player he will succeed with. Rather see Stenberg and Buch paired with him on the third line.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 08:26 amA goalie over a center in round one is malpractice.....that one's not going to age well.zamadoo wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 07:05 am I don't know anything about the goalie, but I wouldn't trade Dvo for any same age goalie.

At NHL draft time, you always want to take the Center over a Goalie, but that is not what we are talking about here.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 08:26 amA goalie over a center in round one is malpractice.....that one's not going to age well.zamadoo wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 07:05 am I don't know anything about the goalie, but I wouldn't trade Dvo for any same age goalie.

The 2023 draft happened 3 years ago, and now the true worth of every player is MUCH MORE KNOWN, and we are RE-DRAFTING with that knowledge.
I ask you... Going into the Finals, which would you rather have on your team?
A) The STRONGEST goalie
B) The WEAKEST center
It's a a no-brainer. You take the goalie.

Re: Dvorsky?
Agreed. I think all the mid-sixers will get similar time, which will be earned. ~13-15min 5v5, plus special teams. It's up to Dvo to make his line the 2nd line. Spot service on the wing would be fine, but his game is a Centerman's game.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 08:26 amA goalie over a center in round one is malpractice.....that one's not going to age well.zamadoo wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 07:05 am I don't know anything about the goalie, but I wouldn't trade Dvo for any same age goalie.

This year, Dvorsky is swimming amongst a sea of Centers that the Blues invested in.
- McTavish was brought in AT GREAT COST
- 2 young prospects were brought in as Round 1 selections.
Dvorsky's problems are not over; they are just starting. We'll see how he responds.

Re: Dvorsky?
Like always, much ado about nuttin.
Devo’s right on schedule and Im hoping he doubles up on points this year, and then takes off in the following year.
Has this review from July 15th…a couple of weeks ago…from Wheeler been posted in this thread? Since I’m not gonna go through all of the [nonsense]..
Nothin to worry about
Dvorsky is a smart, skilled forward who had the roundedness, defensive awareness and positioning, habits and stick detail of a pro at an early age. The big question with him for years was whether he’d be a center or a winger long-term. After noticeably adding some muscle and a little more speed — his skating still isn’t a strength, but he works — he has shown he can stick in the middle.
He uses his body to gain inside positioning on defenders and shields pucks from defenders extremely impressively. I don’t think his skating is prohibitive. He has shown more fire and competitiveness as he has developed. I see legitimate finesse skills, point-production upside and power-play tools. He can run the wall or the point on the PP, effortlessly picking coverage apart and feathering pucks through seams. He has excellent touch and weight on his passes (he’s a great saucer passer off his forehand and backhand in particular) and does a beautiful job waiting for lanes to open. He trusts his one-timer and his wrister from midrange. He has quick hands and instincts, with standout puck control and shading — and he uses them to take pucks to the middle. I like him in give-and-gos and in individual attacking sequences inside the offensive zone.
Dvorsky is a highly talented and intelligent playmaker who can threaten coverage in a variety of ways, whether that’s carving through in control at his own pace and finishing cleanly from the home-plate area, sliding off coverage to find pockets of space to get open into, or drawing coverage and facilitating. He does a wonderful job hanging onto pucks and waiting for options to open. He’ll occasionally force things, but he usually finds his way through with his skill, strength on pucks and smarts. His statistical profile is really strong, too. I’ve always seen second-line potential and a middle-six floor with clear power-play upside, and that’s still where I’m at.

Thank you SameOldBlues for some much needed common sense! The kid played almost a full season in the NHL at 20, then was a breakout player in the Olympics. Not seeing a reason for the constant freak out on here about him.
