Competitive Window - The avg age roster to win a WS this decade is right around 30 years old

What this means for our competitive window - we probably aren't going to create a championship roster out of 23-25 yo's who win it all in their first year or 3 in the majors - this isn't the NBA. WS most of the time require a mix of top talent and prior experience.

So at this point, trading for prospects born in 2007 or 2008 - those are players who probably don't turn into marginal championship contributors in their careers until 2037 or 2038 - which hopefully would represent a second competitve window by then. So that needs to be kept in mind when trading older for younger and trying to count future chickens.

This next offseason and year should be about rationalizing the roster and high minors into who will actually be able to contribute at that high level in the closer future, not sometime well into the 2030s when they finally hit their primes.

We can have 19-26 year old prospects that are brought up over a period of time.

We don’t need to make sure all our prospects are x age.

Their window to compete starts to open when they get one young, front of rotation SP to the majors, and goes into full effect when they get at least two young, front of rotation SPs to the majors. Probably 2028, 2029.

Keep stacking prospects to make sure you have those front of rotation SPs and other players around them to support them.

In short, if we are built the right way, we shouldn't have a defined window.

Yes, we trade the Grays and Donovans because they're too late from when the window begins. But there is always room for very young prospects.

And don't worry about the roster being too young. Once they add vets, it will even out.

Yes - the really hard part, that requires patience, is building the minor league system to be able to provide a continuous flow of the young, talented cost controlled players that the team will need to keep that window open. That's what needs to be definitively accomplished first.

After that - they can always sign a FA or two any offseason when they have identified a specific hole they need to fill.

So people can't be fans and follow the team if they don't blindly think the current roster is competitive? Open your eyes and pay attention. Theyve lost 4 of 6 to two of the worst teams in baseball. This roster has several holes to fill. There is a looming work stoppage.

I have been a fan for over 40 years. Through good teams and bad. I will continue to be a fan. But I am realistic with what I see. So get the hell out of here with your "why are you still around" bullsh!t.
