Pallante- 20 wins.
Good morning.
I know. Won’t happen. However it is still mathematically possible. 11 wins. 12 starts remaining.
Last night- 7 IP 0 runs 1 walk 8 K ? h. 11-6 record. 3 No Decisions.
It’s been a minute since we had a 20 gamer, even league level it’s rare. And of all the pitchers- Pallante- our number five.
Again a monumental deed. Heres the rub- he will need the pen to greatly assist this effort. The pen, is not our friend.
Thoughts on a break out season.

That would be cool. Unlikely, but cool. Last 20 game winner for Cards was Waino in 2021.
The Orioles (who had four 20 game winners in 1971) have had none in the last 50 years.

Very difficult to win 20 games in this era of 5-man rotations instead of 4 as it was in the past. It would be a terrific season if he won 15 or 16.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 08:24 am Good morning.

Re: Pallante- 20 wins.
Note- 3 no decisions in 20 starts. That’s monumental. No pen interference.
Also to note- check this out- Pallante has gone 5 innings plus in 19 or 20 games started. One 3 inning stinker. That’s Strong.

At the game last night BDog and your guy was really good, he was fooling the Reds hitters all night.
Now, you're not going to like this but...........
Could this be the BEST TIME ever to maximize the return and deal him?
After this year he has two years of control left (positive), he's having his best season since becoming a starter (positive) and he's set to make at least $6+M in 2027 (positive).

Thoughts on a break out season.
A generation ago, a full load of starts in a season was 37 or 38.
Now, it 32-33.
Starting pitchers today have roughly 15% fewer potential starts over a full season.
So, 17 wins is the new 20.
But that is only half of the story.
The post-season is just the opposite: teams can play as many as 22 post-season games, compared to 7 or 14 in decades past.
This means it is easier than ever for pitchers to pad stats and set records in the post-season.
And, if a team goes deep into the post-season, a starting pitcher can eventually approach the 37-38 starts workload that would mirror what many starters would have done in the 60's and 70's.

To your two points- yes if you deal him you might get a reasonable deal- 3-4 years from now if ever. In Pallante you have 2.5 more years. The goal was to build from within. He may be a product of that model. As soon as they arrive, you Cant just trade them.
And yes. I expect regress next season, not due to performance but do to the breaks of the game. Hes getting the breaks now. Won’t last.

If STL chooses to not be buyers at the deadline and does not want to compete for the post-season this year, then obviously Bloom must consider trading Pallante who has 3 years of control remaining.
Folks may not like it, but if Bloom sells, moving Pallante is the CORRECT BASEBALL DECISION if the return merits it.

No-No-No....he's NOT becoming the staff Ace....McG (3.07 ERA/15 quality starts) is the much better pitcher.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 08:56 amThanx. He is becoming the staff Ace. Who would have guessed that?rockondlouie wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 08:47 am![]()

McG also has the best pin-point control I've seen on a pitcher in a long, long time!
Stupid comp, but he reminds me of a lesser version of G. Maddux.
You wouldn't be dealing Pallante for a prospect that far from MLB BDog.
He's got some solid value (3.77 ERA and that rubber arm I keep mentioning) so you'd get a major league ready now or in 2027 prospect, perhaps even a current major league player.

The rubber arm is rare. In fact there are few. I’d take a chance and keep it around. Still gonna need a 4-5 guy when the rebuild is complete.rockondlouie wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 09:10 amNo-No-No....he's NOT becoming the staff Ace....McG (3.07 ERA/15 quality starts) is the much better pitcher.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 08:56 amThanx. I think trading a surging starting pitcher at the deadline can get you a player who can make an impact in 2027

He may be that rare guy. We have been long attempting to develop from within, maybe we did it.
