Mcgreevy and pallantes numbers are better than #4 starters. #3 at the very least. Leahy is trending that way other than his # of innings pitched.

Cardinals are 10th out of 30 teams in starging putching era and 11th ozt of 30 in innings putched. That isnt done with all starters no better than a #4 and Libby also being on the bad end of a #5.

We have guys that are #3 pitchers. We just need to find an ace. Pallante mcgreevy and leahy is a solid building block.
+1
Yes. Been a strong advocate of a very good staff3-5, maybe best in baseball. When you feel like you have a chance daily, that’s huge. Even a Libby start reeks hope eternal.

All our guys go 5 plus. It’s the pen, not the staff.

Concerning the rotation....they are getting some solid pitching but obviously are in need of a couple of higher ceiling arms.
Good news> I am optimistic that we have a number of those type arms in the system.
2027 could see them emerging.
As for the BP...I hear you but it may be the one area easiest to fix?
We’ve seen the Cards add BP arms in the past with success.
Hopefully Bloom does it again.

The Cardinals absolutely need to develop at least two young, cost controlled front-of-rotation SPs, and then probably be willing to add a third, #2 SP from outside of the organization (if need be). Having two young, cost controlled front-of-rotation SPs may/should give them the flexibility to be able to pay $25-$30 million AAV for that 3rd, #2 SP.

Having three FOR SPs going into a future season would set them up really well to compete with the best team if all three stay healthy for the entire season, and even if only two remain healthy, they would at least have a fighting chance in a short postseason series.

That's a large task. I'm not 100% about many things except that they aren't buying tor pitching. So do you want to trade Walker and Whetherholt for 2 tor pitchers? That's what it takes. You don't get them for prospects. You don't get them for packages of anyone else you have. You trade off guys like Burleson and Herrera who have value and some control left for prospects and you develope them. I don't think your trade deadline pieces are going to get you much. It's not an instant gratification thing. We are in the middle of building a system that stocks the major league team with pitching and core players. It's going to take a couple more years. But you are right. Before we become truly competitive we need front end pitching. I see Liam Doyle as the closest and he's still trying to develope his secondary pitches in aa. So middle of next year would be a pretty optimistic time for him. And I know the suggestion to trade Burly and Herrera will bring criticism. But these are both incomplete players that can be replaced by the guys coming thru the system now. The idea is they arrive with the pitching. Baez Baez Rodriguez Bernal. Enjoy the process and the end result will be even better.
Absolutely agree. Thinking more about this, I’d hold onto Pallante because at age 27 he more fits our timeline with McGreevy. Leahy might look good to a contending team that needs some rotation help. Pitching prospects are the ultimate roll of the dice. I’m being an optimist here and feel that Franklin, Doyle and Mathews could form a pretty darn good 1-3 in the next two to three years. Then add McGreevy, Pallante and Dobbins on the back end.

I'm with you on Pallante. I think he keeps getting better a little each year after this one

Pallante and McGreevy are very good mid/back of rotation guys that can eat innings.

Time to see what Mathews and Dobbins can do.

I agree the greatest lack on this team is elite pitching. They have a scrappy and medium talented squad on the offense/fielding side of the equation that could contend. Maybe need another bat OFer or 3B but adequate and growing. But there is no TOTR pitching.

Which is why I am excited about 2027. They will have LOTS of money. Adding two higher caliber starters could vault them into the discussion.

We'll see. Looking forward to the end of whatever lockout/strike happens and clarity on the future.
