Compulsive Deflection: Discovering that pointing out someone else's typo, mistake, or minor infraction is a remarkably effective way to distract from your own unfinished responsibilities.

Selective Hearing: Interpreting questions as challenges, suggestions as insubordination, and criticism as a personal attack.

The Dangers of PAID:

Responsibility Avoidance: The energy once devoted to doing the job slowly shifts toward making sure everyone notices how everyone else is doing theirs.

Perspective Loss: You forget that authority exists to accomplish a task—not to provide a steady supply of self-esteem.

Ego Dependency: Eventually, correcting people becomes more satisfying than contributing anything yourself.

Respect Deficit: You begin believing people respect your authority, when in reality they're simply exhausted by it.

Treatment:

Step 1: Finish your own responsibilities before conducting quality inspections on everyone else's.

Step 2: Ask yourself whether you're solving a problem or simply enjoying having one to point at.

Step 3: Remember that leadership isn't measured by how often you correct people—it's measured by how often you help them succeed.

Step 4: If your greatest accomplishment this week is catching someone else's minor mistake while your own work remains untouched, consider logging off and tackling the item that's been sitting on your own to-do list since Tuesday.
