All This Talk About Not Having a Star Player-Silly

Post by BluesDom »

Who the hell is Robert Thomas? He is a star player, and his best days are in front of him. He is Elite and is similar to all but a few of the below players who have higher quality: Makar, Matthews Tkachuks, Hughes, Keller--the Rest not better. He is equal to Suzuki or Caufield or Tage or Svechnikov or Hischer or Necas.
For you monkeys that say we have no Top players. We do. We have a winner in Thomas. He is a star. A little tip--We have a few more potential future stars in Broberg, Holloway, Snuggerud and Hofer. Let them prove it before we talk of them. Thomas has proved it and his point totals last 5 years are just outside top ten in the league. (due to injury)

If he was on Colorado, he'd have 100 pts.

Lets look at his draft class, shall we?

Cale Makar 547
Elias Pettersson 508
Jason Robertson 490
Nico Hischier 488
Nick Suzuki 476
Robert Thomas 460
Martin Necas 426
Miro Heiskanen 346

Next Draft Class:
Brady Tkachuk 463
Hughes 485
Svechnikov 434
Dahlin 434

and the one before his;
Matthews 780
Matt Tkachuk 670
Keller 596
Debrincat 595
Tage Thompson 406
Dubois 427
Laine 422
Adam Fox 422

2019 class
Jack Hughes 428
Boldy 329
Caufield 307
Zegras 253
Cozens 272

I agree now that he has a killer line in holloway and snuggy, you are going to see just how dominate he is.

Petterson may currently have more points, but Thomas will very likely pass him this season, and odds are him, Suzuki, and Hiscier will leap frog each other year to year.

He may have the stats but as people used to say about Kyrou, he doesn’t pass the “eye test” of an elite player.

Doesn’t single-handedly take over a game
There is no sense of anticipation when the puck is on his stick
Has bouts of moodiness from time to time

I truly hope 100% he gets there, I don’t think he’s there yet however.

After watching all Thompson's games in the playoffs RT is clearly the better all-round player. TT can light it up but RT is a better puck hound, playmaker, and far better defensively. I will never shake the vision of RT frustrating the daylights out of MacKinnon a couple of seasons ago.

If the three guys on the Blues top line stay reasonably healthy - look out, they are going to put on quite a show.

The health is the key as both Thomas and Holloway have missed games the past couple years. The other thing that may help them light it up, is the potential for a legitimate 2nd scoring line. I’m more interested in seeing if McTavish and whatever two wingers end up playing with him can be an offensive threat. And even our 3rd line could create some matchup issues if Dvorsky can turn a corner.

If healthy, I would expect all players on that top line to have between 65 and 85 points. Especially if the 2nd line guys can all have between 40-55!!

The potential for a legitimate 2nd scoring line is where I am most excited for the upcoming season and where I feel the Blues get their underrated sleeper stats from. I don't recall a time since the loss of ROR that I felt this team had a chance for a solid legitimate 2nd scoring line. McTavish and McMichael just have to be equal to last year and the 2nd line is vastly improved, and... AND... without the will he won't he be engaged Kyrou effect you can't just discount that 2nd line. If McTavish and McMichael show up to make a point and show their skills, the reduction of pressure on Thomas and Holloway will go miles towards their health

It always seems like we don't have a star because we are in STL and the media just doesn't cover the Blues very much.

The last time I remember the national media treating a Blues player like a star was Tarasenko and Thomas is a much better player.

Thomas went 20th in his draft. I think he's lived up to the expectations. Somewhere in the top 2/3s of the league. He's fine.

Anybody expecting Lawrence or Dagenais to be better?

Yea But:
The last true franchise player the St. Louis Blues had — a guy you build the entire team around — was Chris Pronger, ending in 2004.
After him, the Blues have had stars, leaders, and elite contributors… but not a single true franchise cornerstone.

Gotta have something to start with!

Bobby Tom-a good player-not a franchise player-and not a captain!
Blues need/have to have a starter-build around that

Does not have to be drafted

How many players on that list have won a Cup?

Was Thomas the first to win one?

He's about to have his best seasons, while others will likely not be able to say the same going forward.

I've been calling for 100pts out of him this season.

He’s very good. Very good. Not elite.
