Mariners looking for players with controllable years and Phillies looking to win now. This trade would have met both of those needs and gave the Cards two high upside prospects for pitcher and third base.
Excellent post.
The M's want a RH bat - and Herrera is probably the only one they could have interest in.
If Herrera and O' Brien could be moved for Hancock, you do that before the M's come to their senses.

Hancock is pitching better this year, but he's almost certainly not a 3.16 ERA pitcher going forward. More like a 4.00 ERA low #3/#4 SP at best.
I got Pallante at three- Leahy at four and Libby at five, for starters. That’s a very strong bottom three. This wins many of the straggle games. Many tossups.

We got McG as a top three- low two. Hancock would be our two. We’d be duel headed with two number twos. Then, we add the Ace next off season.

I see Seattle going after Adelle, along with most other teams.

And I caution the desire for Emerson as being a top tier pitcher. Probably a 2 at his highest but mostly a 3.5-4

Good afternoon. Where would Hancock slot in to our staff- ahead of McG or after, per potential.

Yea brother thanx for your time. Now. If he came to STL with this staff, minus May to trade, would this be a better- formidable young cheap staff.

Personally, not a fan. Seems like we have as good, or better, options on the way shortly.

He might have some traits better than McGreevy, but he's not going to consistently deliver better results than McGreevy.

Seattle wants something that will help them contend
today too. Which contender will subtract anything of substance
for Hancock who I do like but not enough to subtract
a strong piece for 10 2026 starts?

There are probably an equal amount of caveats for both players.
One is a 6 pitch guy with low velo, the other has a newly deployed 5-6 pitch mix with mid 90's velo. He doesn't
use that curve much. All that aside and velo is far from everything.

era to FIPs
McG is 3.07 to 4.23
EH is 3.16 to 3.72 muck more sustainable.

SO/9
McG 5.8
EH 8.3

They could actually build together, IMO, never hurts having a guy from a different and good
development system.

Even a 3.5 starting pitcher with 3 years of control is more valuable than an average RH hitter with no position and 2 years of control and a 31 year old journeyman relief pitcher.

The odds seem low for EM.

I do believe though that IF the Cards were to add pitching that were able
to contribute in 2026, 2027 and beyond that him having a shot at being a #2 or a
likely #3 that is the high side wheelhouse for them.

Not a negative judgement of the team or ownership. It is because the goal to fill TOR will
be from within, imo.

Historicaly Herrera dominated left handed pitching but not as much this year. I look for Seattle to first go after Spencer Steer with the Reds who can play multiple positions and hits lefties well. He won’t cost Hancock but likely a prospect unless Reds add to the deal with a reliever.
Honestly the Cards trade chips have really underperformed recently and sunk their value. Bloom is going to have to be creative with the trades to get any value back

Steer is a good call.

Predicting any trade though is difficult because it
so difficult to know price tags.

The rumored Adell trade also make some sense.
His numbers aren't very far different than IH. We don't know either team price.

It actually a shame Velazquez does have 100+ more ab's at the same rate results.

Adell is a nothing. 7 years in the big leagues a career 0.8 bWAR with a .692 OPS/92 OPS+. Outside of 2025 he's been a complete disappointment for a former top 5 MLB prospect. And even then his OPS in 2025 was .778 with a .293 OBP, not exactly stellar.
